Fans of NBC’s Trauma series have had a season of ups and downs. The TV show got off to a poor start in the ratings and then was essentially cancelled when NBC decided not to purchase any episodes beyond the initial 13 installments. Later, because the peacock network needed additional original programming, they kept it in production and ordered an additional seven episodes.
Unfortunately, the show’s ratings got worse and worse and NBC later cut the final episode order to 18 installments. Last night’s was the last. Looking at the ratings, it’s hard to imagine that NBC would consider ordering another season of Trauma.
Still, one of the show’s star’s, Cliff Curtis (Rabbit), remains hopeful that Trauma will be back for year two and refused to let the show’s prospects influence his work. He recently spoke to USAWeekend and here’s a portion of that conversation…
Have you got any word on if Trauma will get a second season?
We’re still in the mix despite all reports of being cancelled. I’m still contracted till May 17, which will be the day I find out what I’m doing. They haven’t cut me loose to go and take first position on any other projects. We’re all watching.Would your first choice be to have another year of Rabbit?
I love Rabbit as a character, he’s fantastic. We can get better – we’ve come a long way and we started off with a very broad concept: Basically taking a female-skewed audience of a genre show, a medical show, and skewing it toward the male audience. The pendulum swang a little too far in that direction, we’re pulling it back the other way, and we’re getting really good. That must have been pretty disheartening to hear the rumors in the fall of Trauma being cancelled and left for dead.
I skipped over all of that because I didn’t want to focus on it. That is not going to help me enjoy my work and is not going to help enjoy my life. Rabbit as a character is somebody who despite all of his flaws and all the tragedy happening around him, he’s just a fun guy in a lot of ways. He’s not the brightest guy at times – he’s got room to grow in terms of how he approaches life, and that’s what keeps me interested in him as an actor. But I just really love his enthusiasm for life. I really admire people who are clear about what they love, and they just go for it. That’s really helped me as an actor to think, “You know, I’m gonna approach it with the same attitude.” People can say what they say. I’m loving my job, loving my work, love the people around me, and I’m going to come to work every day and have the best time I can.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a chance at returning? If it is cancelled, would you like to see Curtis (or even “Rabbit”) to land on another series?

I started watching Trauma late in the season and am so sad that
it is ending. I agree with the other viewers. NBC needs to keep this show and do away with several others that are no where near as good. Please bring Trauma back!!!!
TRAUMA is awesome and deserves a second season, they need to advertise for it a lot more than they have been. I also think they should put it on at 10, it seems like a show for a more mature audience. The Jay-Leno show F****ed everything up royally this past TV season for NBC.
We would LOVE to see it continued. It is different from anything else on and great quality. It is hard to build up viewership when it is up against an already popular show. I hope they give it another chance!
you guys need to do whatever it takes to keep this show on it’s the best thing since er my sons and i watch it all the time and can’t wait to see the next episode now we come to find out it is going nto be cancelled we are so upset
Gee whiz,
I only watched it in the beginning BECAUSE of Curtis, then I really liked Anastasia Griffith and the whole Nancy/Rabbit romance, and now we don’t even get to find out what happens? There’s a reason why I usually only watch series TV on HBO . . .
NBC = the suck
Someone else bye Trauma
I LOVE TRAUMA, PLEASE DON’T CANCEL
As a late fan I have really enjoyed the show. I didn’t discover it till late last fall. So I think NBC needs to continue the show.
Don’t take Trauma away.
Trauma is a fantastic show and Cliff Curtis is a phenomenal actor. If you think he’s good in Trauma, check out his earlier work e.g. Once Were Warriors. I just wish that he was “discovered” sooner for mainstream projects. Please keep Trauma!
Bring Trauma back. I very seldom watch any of the three big networks but this show brought me back. Curtis played an excellent role. If they dont bring the show back I would love to see him in another show. But please bring trauma back. There isnt no Olympics next year to interfer with show ratings.
I worked on Trauma and one of the most surprising things was how Cliff Curtis in real life has many of the mannerisms of Rabbit. He talks with the same cocky self assured attitude, and is often found with white ipod headphones in ears on breaks just like on the show.
Anastasia on the other hand has a glaring British accent in real life, but not on the show.
So, are you saying he is not a nice person in real life? Please explain your comments.
Seriously, the ratings went down because i know I for one never saw a commercial announcing that it had even come back on! My family and I LOVE trauma, especially after ER was canceled. NBC’s ratings have dropped because they took all of the good series away and filled the slots with stupid reality shows. I for one am sick of reality shows on any channel. The only one we watch is the Biggest Loser. Bring Trauma back next year and advertise that its on again and maybe you’ll have better ratings, the same goes for Mercy.
DONT CANCEL TRAUMA!
both my wife and i enjoyed watching Trauma. The first couple of episodes seemed
a little corny and we almost stopped watching it. Thankfully we stayed with it because
the story line is first rate, the charachters are REAL and i feel this show has developed
into one of the very best on TV right now. Come on NBC, give it another shot!!!
