Fans of NBC’s Trauma series have had a season of ups and downs. The TV show got off to a poor start in the ratings and then was essentially cancelled when NBC decided not to purchase any episodes beyond the initial 13 installments. Later, because the peacock network needed additional original programming, they kept it in production and ordered an additional seven episodes.
Unfortunately, the show’s ratings got worse and worse and NBC later cut the final episode order to 18 installments. Last night’s was the last. Looking at the ratings, it’s hard to imagine that NBC would consider ordering another season of Trauma.
Still, one of the show’s star’s, Cliff Curtis (Rabbit), remains hopeful that Trauma will be back for year two and refused to let the show’s prospects influence his work. He recently spoke to USAWeekend and here’s a portion of that conversation…
Have you got any word on if Trauma will get a second season?
We’re still in the mix despite all reports of being cancelled. I’m still contracted till May 17, which will be the day I find out what I’m doing. They haven’t cut me loose to go and take first position on any other projects. We’re all watching.Would your first choice be to have another year of Rabbit?
I love Rabbit as a character, he’s fantastic. We can get better – we’ve come a long way and we started off with a very broad concept: Basically taking a female-skewed audience of a genre show, a medical show, and skewing it toward the male audience. The pendulum swang a little too far in that direction, we’re pulling it back the other way, and we’re getting really good. That must have been pretty disheartening to hear the rumors in the fall of Trauma being cancelled and left for dead.
I skipped over all of that because I didn’t want to focus on it. That is not going to help me enjoy my work and is not going to help enjoy my life. Rabbit as a character is somebody who despite all of his flaws and all the tragedy happening around him, he’s just a fun guy in a lot of ways. He’s not the brightest guy at times – he’s got room to grow in terms of how he approaches life, and that’s what keeps me interested in him as an actor. But I just really love his enthusiasm for life. I really admire people who are clear about what they love, and they just go for it. That’s really helped me as an actor to think, “You know, I’m gonna approach it with the same attitude.” People can say what they say. I’m loving my job, loving my work, love the people around me, and I’m going to come to work every day and have the best time I can.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a chance at returning? If it is cancelled, would you like to see Curtis (or even “Rabbit”) to land on another series?

Please don’t cancel it. Finally, a medical programme that I actually watch. While their are personal aspects we actually have medical action. All good there!!!
THey need to bring it back this is the only show other then the biggest loser I watch on NBC. Or I will just cut off watching NBC totally even tho I enjoy the biggest loser I will not give a network hight ratings when it does this CRAP to the good shows. I hope if NBC doesn’t pick it back up that another network will. If its not getting high ratings for monday nights try fridays or wed. when there is really nothing else on to watch! This totally is going to suck in the fall if they don’t… Read more »
I really fell in love with Trauma and my husband, who NEVER watches medical shows was also enjoying it. PLEASE let another network pick this up, along with Flash Forward and Miami Medical
I agree. I’d watch it on any network at any time. I think it’s disgraceful that all these “reality shows” are taking the jobs of actors who are trained to give us real entertainment. I guess it’s cheaper when they don’t have to pay real actors to work.
I would watch Trauma on ANY network at any time. If another network is smart enough to pick it up and promote it, I don’t think they would be sorry. Both Rabbit and Nancy are complex, interesting characters and the actors playing them are exceptional. I hope I’ll see them elsewhere if the worst happens.
Bring back Trauma
Bring it back, bring it back, bring it back !!!!! Love that show. Love the story line.
I am very upset that Trauma and Mercy will be cancelled! I am so tired of watching these shows just to have them cancelled when you start getting into the stories! The Networks don’t give people enough time to get into them before they pull the plug! Not everyone likes Comedys and Reality shows. They change the schedule and by the time you find the show again they have been cancelled.
I love Trauma and I will be sad to see it go. It was great acting and the characters had a lot of depth. I will definitely miss it!
I am a fan of Trauma….I was very sad to hear that it might be canceled….Please get the people at NBC to give it another chance it is a great show and i think it has great potential…..Give it another chance…..
I am really bummed to hear trauma wont be coming back… My husband and I looked forward to watching it on mondays… this stinks
I was devastated to read about the cancellation of Trauma, this is one of my favorite tv drama’s i would love to see the show continue on NBC or another network,i hope the dont cancel mercy too cause then i’ll truly stop watching NBC.If there’s a petition to sign to keep Trauma on NBC i will sign cause i truly enjoy Rabbit,Marissa and the rest of the cast….
Very upset to hear this news.
I loved this show and agree with everyone else.. If NBC won’t do another season, I hope that another channel will.. I agree that the show felt like it was picking up speed and getting into the acters a little more as well as keeping up the action.
PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!
should be more, they cancel the good shows and we are left with crap, also bring back Mercy,
another network needs to pick up this show are mercy like they did for southland PLEASE TNT DO YOU HEAR ME 🙂
Disapointed to hear this news. Really have enjoyed the show and would continue watching it if another network picked it up. All of the actors did a great job and the writers as well. Felt like the show was just picking up speed.
