After eight seasons, The Vampire Diaries is ending tonight, March 10th. Recently, showrunner Julie Plec spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about ending the CW series. But what we want to know is: Would you have watched a ninth season of the show?
The supernatural drama revolves around the search for love and the battle between good and evil in the supernatural-charged town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. The cast includes Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham, Candice King, Zach Roerig, Matt Davis, and Michael Malarkey.
In the interview, Plec revealed part of the decision to end The Vampire Diaries came down to logistics:
There were a lot of things that went into [the decision to end the series]. Some logistics, some contractual, where you were just like, ‘OK, if this person doesn’t come back, is the show still going to be good? What if they do come back, but we don’t know until the end?’ A lot of that silly stuff you’re not supposed to talk about. Logistical stuff.”
However, when it came down to it, the decision was a creative one:
What it came down to for us was, let’s start talking about the season and see what it feels like, see what stories we want to tell, see where those stories take us. And then if it feels like it should be over, then it should be over.”
Later, Plec mentioned they weren’t able to tie up all the loose ends in the series finale:
We had two hit lists. We had one, who do we want to see again? Because in a season when we’re leading up to goodbye, being able to get one final look at some of our beloved characters was most important. And then the other was, what have we not resolved? In 171 episodes, what are those dangling chads that will haunt us until the end of time if we don’t get answers to those questions?
We just couldn’t find a place and a way to answer one — which plagued me because we tried. It’s certainly disappointing.”
Given that one dangling thread, do you think there should’ve been a ninth season of the The CW series? Would you have watched? Is it ending at the right time?Tell us what you think.
I never liked vampire stuffs and never watched any vampire movies… But vampire diaries was awesome and I would like to watch season 9.
Yes I would watch season 9 and more. Mistake ending the show.
I stopped watching in the middle of season 4, so that’s a NO for me. But I’ll watch the finale anyway.
why, no!!!!!!! the show was awesome did amazing!!! And still deserves to be on the ending was mediocre, but still made me cry! Maybe it was just a little unbelievable Caroline n Stephen’s “love” but, it really seemed like katerina Graham stepped it up or rather was allowed to step it up n rocked it she ended up being the star and her love with enzo seemed way more real then steraline’s I’m just saying Julie u had sumtn but bcuz u kept elaina in a box it made viewers think she was coming back…. when u knew she wasn’t… Read more »
The ending of TVD was a few years overdue. This was an awesome show for the first 6 seasons. They should’ve ended with Nina leaving.
I am so gonna miss Ian Somerhalder. Other than that, I can see Caroline, Alaric and his daughters being in The Originals.
Yes I would watch a 9th season i did not want it to end great show would like Elena to come back to the show not the same without her
YOU NEED TO SHIFT SOME OF THIS ACTORS, TO THE ORIGINALS.!!
Simple answer YES
Plec….huh…could have done better…..much better. Fanfiction is better than watching this. Fans write it way better and have continuety.
Totally agree..There are some JEMS at FF.Net
I will LOVE to watch season 9! I love TVD!
I definitely would’ve watched season 9! And I pray The Originals will not end this season! Cast from vampire diaries should go to Originals but if they don’t The Originals is fantastic and must go on to season 5 and beyond! I watched it 1st & loved it, I only watchedThe Vampire Diaries after 3 seasons of Originals when I found out they 1st appeared in TVD, then I fell in love with both
Yes,I would have watched a ninth season. Love the show.
YEEEESSSS!!!!!
Yes, I definitely would. Back when it first started, I didn’t watch the first 3 episodes. Didn’t think it would be any good. Knowing I liked vampire movies, I decided too and got caught up, now I have never been behind. I’ve bought the DVDs, and watch the originals because it was a spin off. Now I know not what to watch, please change your minds, I’m going to be lost without them. This is out of a mouth of a 63 year old woman.
