Why didn’t Vinyl make the cut? Recently, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys sounded off on the cancelled music series, Deadline reports.
From Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, Rich Cohen, and Terence Winter, the drama followed a record executive (Bobby Cannavale) in 1970s New York City. The cast included Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, and Juno Temple. HBO cancelled the series this year after one season.
When asked why the network cancelled Vinyl after renewing it already, Bloys said the show was too expensive:
It didn’t land. With limited resources, we didn’t think the retooling was worth the producers’ time if it would only move the needle a little bit.”
What do you think? Did you watch Vinyl? Do you think it should’ve been renewed?
What a shame. I liked it. Great series. Now I will not be getting hbo. Thanks hbo at least I saved money now that I’m not putting you in my cable package. Get a grip it was a good show.
What a shame. Next to WestWorld, Vinyl was the ONLY other reason HBO had a chance. Now it looks like WestWorld might be iffy too???? I guess it’s just ANOTHER reason why not to pay Verizon $14.99 for HBO Anywhere…..lol
What’s next? Another round of lamo Real Sex? ugggg
I absolutely loved this show! The characters, the music, the era! I can’t believe HBO cancelled Vinyl. The movies on HBO haven’t been good. At least I had Vinyl to look forward to. I’ll just cancel HBO now. :(:(
It was one of the best HBO shows, the actors killed it. Nothing like it was on TV.
II was so impressed with vinyl Is looking forward to season two as was my boyfriend. I recommended it to so many friends. I am very disappointed it will not be renewed. I am going to purchase the first season. It is classic. If someone picks up the second season we would pay for it and we are subscribers.
What a shame. Finally a show the rockers and hippies from the 70s enjoy and you pull the plug. I can only hope someone else picks it up.
Do these reviews ever matter? Ones anyone at HBO even see them or Care?
HBO canceled Vinyl, I canceled HBO !! I would rather not watch future shows put on by programming directors who don’t even realize what a good show they had. Makes me very reluctant to watch any other new programming that may have in the wings.
No. Seriously HBO? I have sat through many a season of HBO programming (that is VERY EXPENSIVE), and said shows shouldn’t have made it that far. For the most, you get it right. This is a mistake of grand perportions. GRAND. I’m with Showtime. Very sad. On another note: Showtime’s Riadies is brilliant too.
You really should have coughed up some Christmas bonuses to keep VIYNL on at least one more season. It’s a huge slap to all involved. HBO should sit in the corner…and lower their prices.
Love the era of Lou Reed, Bowie, NY Dolls, The Ramones, et. al.: ’73-’78. Watched every episode of Vinyl for that reason, and, come on – Scorsese…thought Vinyl kind a sucked, mostly because it wanted hip-hop & punk to be in the mix in 1973, but also because there’s a raging dope fiend screaming at his people to make it so…uggghh.
