NBC has picked up the second season of their low-rated summer sitcom, Welcome to Sweden. There will be 10 episodes.
On Welcome to Sweden, a successful New Yorker (Greg Poehler) agrees to follow his girlfriend (Josephine Bornebusch) as she returns to her hometown of Stockholm. Others in the cast are Lena Olin, Claes Månsson, Christopher Wagelin, Per Svensson, Patrick Duffy, and Illeana Douglas.
The series has garnered low ratings, even for a summer series. The latest episode drew a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.52 million total viewers.
However, the peacock network merely licenses the show so it doesn’t cost NBC very much when compared to producing their original programming. In April, it was renewed for a second season in Sweden so it would seem like a given that NBC would pick up season two here but that hasn’t been the case with other summer shows.
You may recall that licensed shows Crossing Lines, The Listener, and Merlin were all dropped by NBC after one season.
Parks and Recreation’s Amy Poehler is among the show’s producers so that may have played into the decision to keep Welcome to Sweden as well.
What do you think? Do you like Welcome to Sweden? Do you think NBC should have committed to season two or should they have cancelled it?
Hej, hej. Tack fopr serie en.
It reminded me of my experiences of visiting Sweden and learning Swedish.
So much was only a little exaggerated.
We LOVED the show!!! Can’t wait for Season 2!!
Taks a Mücke, (spelling?) Love the Show, Hope it Comes back for Many more seasons.
I love this show. My grandparents were Swedish immigrants–as one review described the typical Swede, “tall, kind and silent.” So true. Should add “quirky,” and similar to residents of Garrison Keillor’s Lake Wobegone. Many of the typical Swedish characteristics and mindset characterized in this show rubbed off on my dad and his many siblings, which adds to my total appreciation for this charming show. Looking forward to Season 2, please!
I enjoy the interplay between the cultures. Bruce is funny when he sticks his foot in his mouth going against Swedish traditions and misunderstandings. Being set in Sweden is also a plus. To see how people live in other countries is always interesting. These types of shows have spurred on the travelogue industry and careers like Rick Steves and the like. True it doesn’t have mass appeal, but it does have an audience once they discover its out there.
The show is great. My wife and I are really hoping to see more. Where can one see any missed shows?
When will the next season start showing?
No date yet.
I like the show. Hope it will continue next summer.
LOVED the show!!! Sure hope it gets renewed
We moved to SC from Sweden (wife,Swede) in 1985, after inculcating the culture for ten years. This show (w to S) , hit me right in the gut. I went through most of what Bruce experienced, and more, hilarious! Being Latin-American, having had to learn English when I was nine, (US citizen), brought up in the states, just added more spice to the cultural soup. I love the show.
Whenever I asked a Swede if they could speak English their reply wasn’t, ‘Yes.’ it was, ‘Of course.’
learning Swedish was fun though.
Great country, I really need to get back.
I love the brand of humor. I find it really refreshing! Bring on season 2!
My wife and I traveled in Europe and we can relate to being in another country and not knowing the language. If it had not been for other people in each country we visited that spoke English we would have had a much harder time getting around and making train connections on time. So I understand what the main character played by Greg Poehler is going through trying to learn Swedish. I find the conflict generated by the various people and situations pleasantly entertaining. My days like many others is stressful and many shows are full of anxiety that is… Read more »

Love it.
