Despite a 30% drop in the ratings, CBS chose to renew its Zoo TV show for a third season, rather than cancel it. Can the network turn things around and regain some audience, or will this summer TV series go the way of the Dodo? Will Zoo be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.
A CBS drama thriller based on the James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge novel, Zoo, stars James Wolk as zoologist Jackson Oz. The cast also includes Kristen Connolly, Nonso Anozie, Billy Burke, Alyssa Diaz, Josh Salatin, and Gracie Dzienny. After noticing animals behaving strangely during the African safaris he conducts, Oz and his team work to figure out the reason behind it. Meanwhile, the animals assaults become more cunning, coordinated, and ferocious.
Season three of Zoo opens in the year 2027. Thanks to the sterility issue, the human population is still diminishing. Meanwhile, hybrids pose a new threat. This relentless force of lab-created creatures is determined to wipe humans off the face of the earth. Although the team members have grown alienated from each other over the last ten years, Jackson, Jamie (Connolly), Abraham (Anozie), Dariela (Diaz), and Logan (Salatin) have to get past their differences and reunite when they learn that Mitch (Burke) is alive. They must stop the hybrids and their enigmatic creator – someone with a connection to their past.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
9/22 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Zoo averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.453 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Zoo TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season on CBS?
10/23/17 update: CBS has cancelled the Zoo TV show after three seasons. Details here.
Keep it going!!
I will see the fourth season!!!!!!!!!! I will watch it forever!!!!!!! The team is the best in the world.
Absolutely am with you on this. Look forward to each episode. Please don’t cancel.
I lost interest in the show, had a bunch of episode recorded but didn’t watch. It started out to be a good show but then if just fell apart.
I love Zoo!! I would love to see a 4th season. The group works well together. I enjoy every minute of the show. Can’t wait to see what season 4 is going to bring.
I have watched this show religiously since #1, but it is now becoming a trial ti watch the story line now. I think they should cancel it. They are beating a dead horse.
Zoo is laughably ludicrous and getting worse instead of better. Cancellation would be like a mercy killing.
We love zoo! We want more!!!
The cast is awesome great chemistry.
Season 1 kept us interested. Season 2 was great with a clif hanger we couldn’t wait for 3. Please. Season 4 . We enjoy this show as husband & wife. ♡ which isn’t often.
I want to see more
Really, after watching this weeks episode, (what a bomber) you can cancel, so people get shot (everyone) and now a crazy lady still loose, wanted to change the world, with man made creatures, come on now, give me a better ending to this madness, yeah cancel it, after what just happened. End it, the Witch still alive!! take her down and her mutant, then maybe you might get your audience back
Sorry, writer, you trippin!!!
Love the show but I have noticed the difference in season 3. It’s almost like it’s being rushed. Last nights episode had me mad as hell that “the witch” (trying to be nice) shoots everyone and walks off the plane. Anyone can guess she’s the queen bee, but in order for to live on she injected some of her DNA into the blood transfusion that the baby daddy gave to baby mamma. So we already know the baby is going to be some sort of mutant. Maybe let the humans repopulate the world so at the right time the new… Read more »
Are they going to air episodes 11-13? or this season there will be only 10?
Zoo is wonderfully rediculous. I mean, come on, an elephant chasing a plane…genius. Season two was just awesome. The second episode started a wild ride. Season three…lost the momentum. Feels like the rediculous got toned down, but the rediculous is what made the zhow worth while! JaMitch and Bubblebath keep me tuned in for now. But the writers gotta shift gears or the show will be toast.
So hooked on Zoo!! Love all the character interaction – great cast, and twists galore
Just waiting for the cancellation to be made official.
This is the best show ever ! I NEED a season 4!!
It has a lot of charm, but somewhat lessened in season 3, and cast certianly has chemistry but the storyline… It seems the writers didn’t really think through the entire season, before starting to write it.
As others have said, season 1 was fun, killing off Chloe in Season 2 and replacing her with two very uniteresting characters really degraded S2 and Season 3 is really just a horrible mess of a story, I’m afraid.
