NBC is planning to go back down the yellow brick road in a Wizard of Oz inspired series. The network cancelled plans for the Emerald City TV show early last year but has now decided to “un-cancel” the project with a new writer at the helm.
Emerald City was picked up straight-to-series in January 2014 with a 10 episode order. Josh Friedman and Matt Arnold were planned to write the script. The project was cancelled because the producers and network couldn’t agree on vision.
Now, David Schulner is attached to write, executive produce and serve as showrunner on the drama’s 10 episodes.
The new take on Emerald City is described this way:
In the blink of a tornado’s eye, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale and her K9 police dog are transported to another world, one far removed from our own — a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before, where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands.
What do you think? Does this new series sounds interesting? Do you think you’ll take a look?
PLEASE bring it back!!!!
Please reconsider: this series was something special, and it has tremendous potential in the hands of the right writers. Oz has lived in the imaginations of Americans for so many years… use it to explore the very human issues of the ideas around governance. It strikes me as a near perfect platform for addressing the tensions between the “right” and the “left”, and exploring how these tensions keep us on the knife edge of democracy.
LOVE THIS SERIES. PLEASE HAVE A SEASON 2
Love this show can’t get enough of it want more
Love the series..will definitely watch
their bench is so bad they had to un-cancel a show
Sounds interesting, but Its just a twist on a remake. The Wizard of oz has been remade before. Tinman was good but they made it a mini series. Why is it so hard for writers to come up with something original?
I’ll try anything ONCE….. but NBC has a lousy track record of keeping junk and pitching things the audience likes, from the Today show all the way to The Tonight show!!!!
Resurrection of a show that was cancelled even before it was made. That’s desperation.
Cancel a great show like Allegiance and put stupid stuff like this on?
Yes
It sounds like fun, but NBC history once the viewer get to know the show and love the actors and the story line, it will be cancelled like they did with Allegiance. Sorry but I can’t get involve with another NBC show
now even the tv shows are walking dead.
NBC should change its name to the desperation network
Sounds good. Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds dreadful. I will be avoiding it in droves.
