The Montel Williams Show: Cancelled After 17 Years

Montel WilliamsAfter 17 years on the air, Montel Williams and his talk show have been cancelled. But fans can take heart as neither are leaving the airwaves for the foreseeable future.

The Montel Williams Show first hit the airwaves on September 30, 1991 in New York and a few other markets. It was picked up for syndication the following year. The show generally focuses on uncontroversial subjects, personal stories, and the readings of self-proclaimed psychic Sylvia Browne. The show was nominated for Daytime Emmys in both 2001 and 2002. A decorated member of naval intelligence, this was the first show for host Williams. He received a Daytime Emmy in 1996 and was nominated in 2002.

CBS Television Distribution has announced that the Montel show is ending its run after 17 years on the air. The syndicated talk show’s fate was reportedly sealed when a number of FOX-owed stations decided against renewing the show for another year. Show production will continue through the rest of this season so new episodes should air for some time.

Though production is shutting down, the show isn’t going away anytime soon. CBS is offering local stations a “Best of Montel” compilation series for the 2008-08 season. It will feature 52 weeks of “some of the most exciting episodes” pulled from the talk show’s long run.

John Nogawski, president and COO of CBS TV Distribution, said, “We have been honored to have ‘Montel’ as a part of our family for the past 17 years, and we’re very excited that ‘Montel’ will live on through these ‘best of’ episodes.”

Of the cancellation, Williams was quoted as saying, “I can’t say thank you enough to those who’ve welcomed me into their homes for the past 17 years. It has been both an honor and a joy.” Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

I too started out as a fan of Montel Williams but he totally squandered the good faith he had with the public by consistently parading out the perpetual fraud Sylvia Brown. For the record, I have nothing against psychics and legitimate ones may indeed exist. But like many in the public I couldn’t stomach Brown’s reckless remarks to grieving parents and the like about their missing children. Think I’m kidding? Google Sylvia Brown and missing kids or Anderson Cooper’s report on this charlatan. The once noble Montel sold his soul for ratings driven by this predatory fraud. Good riddance.

I cannot believe that FOX has canceled a super and very innovative show as The Montel Williams Show! This show has been a mainstay in weekly talk shows for my family and others I am sure. Always entertaining as well as informative. Great subject matter and always heartfelt responses to both his audience and guests. FOX needs to recheck their reasoning for this shows cancelation, they have MANY other shows that are REALLY bad and in need of cancellation, or replacing, but NOT The Montel Williams Show. I swear these big wigs are removing lots of great shows for no reason at all and replacing them with silly and assinine shows which no one wants to watch. I am now down to basically watching two hours of television a day due to all the worthwhile shows being taken away. It’s just not worth it anymore to sit and watch the trifling mess of crap shows they are producing now. What’s the use in having a TV if there’s nothing to watch? Check yourself FOX, you made a HUGE mistake with this one, FIX IT BEFORE IT’S TO LATE!!!! BRING MONTEL BACK!!! God bless Montel, his family and crew, and Sylvia Browne as well, for the best 17 years of show that FOX ever gave and probably will ever have given. I wish you all the best and hope to see you back on television again soon, I’ll be waiting as I am sure millions of others will as well! Love, Brenda and Family from Texas.

Where have I been — I didn’t know that Montel was cancelled. FOX — you are morons. Montel gets fired for his opinion, for what tons of other mothers, fathers, sister, brothers, ALL of us wonder. I loved Heath Leger – but come on, people are dying all over the place DYING so that we have our freedom — one of which is FREEDOM of SPEECH. I guess Montel is supposed to be excluded from that. He did not disrespect the memory of Heath Ledger. There are alot of reality shows and talk shows that ought to be taken on off the air, but NOT Montel. I will NEVER support a FOX product again.

Montel Williams has had a wonderful 17 years.
His show was an inspiration to educated American people.
I can’t believe that his show was cancelled; when there’s shows that
are really offensive to the public and especially our children.
What were they thinking??????

Is this censorship from Fox? Did Montel offend Fox with the truth? Last I knew, this was America not China? I hope for all future generations that Fox is Fair and Balanced! That is what the US was built on.
