The executive producer of ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You has confirmed that the TV show has been cancelled after two seasons. How quickly things can change.
Based on the film of the same name that starred Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Heath Ledger, 10 Things I Hate About You revolves around two very different high school sisters and their friends and partners. The series features the talents of Lindsey Shaw, Meaghan Jette Martin, Ethan Peck, Nicholas Braun, Dana Davis, Larry Miller, Kyle Kaplan, Ally Maki, Chris Zylka, Jolene Purdy, Allie Gonino, and Suzy Nakamura.
The series got off to a great start in July 2009 and ABC Family touted it as the cable channel’s biggest comedy debut to date. It attracted 1.6 million viewers and 734,000 in the coveted 18-49 demo. The news got even better by week four as the show’s ratings grew to 1.8 million viewers and 782,000 in the demo. Season one ended up averaging 1.3 million viewers.
To no surprise, ABC Family renewed the series for a second season of another 10 episodes.

Unfortunately, something happened between seasons one and two. When the 10 Things returned in late March, a lot of the show’s viewers didn’t. Thus far, it’s been averaging just 983,000 viewers. That’s enough for ABC Family to pull the plug, just 10 months after the show’s highly touted debut.
The show’s creator and executive producer, Carter Covington, announced the show’s fate on Twitter: “Sad news… ABCFamily canceled the show 🙁 Thanks 2 our AMAZING fans – U R the reason I do this! Enjoy the last 5 eps – they’re fantastic!”
The remaining five episodes of 10 Things will continue to roll out until May 31st. Since the cancellation comes as a surprise, there’s no word if the series finale will include closure or if storylines will be left unresolved.

I loved this show! They ended it not even a little bit. No closure at all. I could see abc bringing it back when they lose a whole lot of viewers!
I think they should give it another chance. I thought it was a summer show & wasn’t expecting it to be back until then. I would have missed it in March if I didn’t have a season pass for the show. I watch Secret Life as well, but I think 10 Things is so much better – better writing, better actors, funnier, smarter… Just another of my shows that ends before it should!!!

OMG! I am so upset that they canceled my show! I mean, this was the show I never missed. I like ABC Family’s shows such as Make it or Break it and I kinda like The Secret Life of the American Teenager [not so much anymore, the new story-lines are crap] and I LOVED 10 Things I Hate About You. I still can’t believe that my favorite show got canceled!!!! >:|

The only reason that it is called ABC Family is because the first owners of the channel had it in a contract that stated that the word family had to remain in the name of the network no matter who owns it.

I really loved this show. I don’t know if they count the views online, ’cause I didn’t have the channel it was on, but I still watched the show. I really really loved this show; I thought Lindsay and Ethan’s chemistry was so good, and I’ll really miss it. I’m disappointed that there wasn’t a good ending episode. It makes me wonder what would have happened next.
I think it is PATHETIC that they are ending 10 things! especially since they didn’t give any closure or anything! I feel bad for Carter, he’s going to have some very upset fans! and as for ABC family. welllll i wouldnt be surprised if they didn’t loose a WHOLE lot of viewers because of it also! THEY need to bring it back and give it some closure, OR put it on a television network that will play it! THANK YOU come again!

I cant believe they’re cancelling 10 Things! The show is funny, great story lines and for the most part, wholesome. My family has pretty much stopped watching Secret Life. The original theme was good, the show could’ve been a role model for teenagers but it’s nothing more than an orgy now, and its just disgusting and not entertaining. 10 Things had it all over Secret Life. Wake up ABC Family!!!!! Emphasis on “FAMILY”
I can’t believe it either!!!!! I want them to continue it I want to know what happened. They just basically showed the last two episodes they recoreded and left it hanging. So aggrivated wish it would come back!!!
well no DUH no one came back to the show in march! it’s the middle of the season AND it was on MONDAYS in the WORST time slot ever! most people are already committed to watching one tree hill, how i met your mother, dancing with the stars and chuck during that time!
they should have just kept it in the summer or given it a better time slot cause no doubt it would have picked up in ratings
i think i hate abc family now – it was one of the funiest shows on tv!
