The executive producer of ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You has confirmed that the TV show has been cancelled after two seasons. How quickly things can change.
Based on the film of the same name that starred Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Heath Ledger, 10 Things I Hate About You revolves around two very different high school sisters and their friends and partners. The series features the talents of Lindsey Shaw, Meaghan Jette Martin, Ethan Peck, Nicholas Braun, Dana Davis, Larry Miller, Kyle Kaplan, Ally Maki, Chris Zylka, Jolene Purdy, Allie Gonino, and Suzy Nakamura.
The series got off to a great start in July 2009 and ABC Family touted it as the cable channel’s biggest comedy debut to date. It attracted 1.6 million viewers and 734,000 in the coveted 18-49 demo. The news got even better by week four as the show’s ratings grew to 1.8 million viewers and 782,000 in the demo. Season one ended up averaging 1.3 million viewers.
To no surprise, ABC Family renewed the series for a second season of another 10 episodes.

Unfortunately, something happened between seasons one and two. When the 10 Things returned in late March, a lot of the show’s viewers didn’t. Thus far, it’s been averaging just 983,000 viewers. That’s enough for ABC Family to pull the plug, just 10 months after the show’s highly touted debut.
The show’s creator and executive producer, Carter Covington, announced the show’s fate on Twitter: “Sad news… ABCFamily canceled the show 🙁 Thanks 2 our AMAZING fans – U R the reason I do this! Enjoy the last 5 eps – they’re fantastic!”
The remaining five episodes of 10 Things will continue to roll out until May 31st. Since the cancellation comes as a surprise, there’s no word if the series finale will include closure or if storylines will be left unresolved.
What do you think? Based on the ratings, did ABC Family make the right decision regarding 10 Things I Hate About You? Are you sorry to see the show go? What happened?

No of course they didn’t ake the right decision!! Alot of epople loved that show!!!! THEY NEED TO BRING THE SHOW BACK!!! There making a HUGE mistake!!
noo i love this show i come home frm school and my hopes get up when the show is about to start it is exilerating!!!
This is so stupid why do you put it on Monday nights when so many shows are on Monday nights. Everyone knows that a lot of shows on regular cable are on THAT night. THINK PEOPLE YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET MUCH VIEWERS IF YOU ARE BEING STUPID. Bring it back long enough to see what happens to everyone and the relationships.
I LOVE THIS SHOW I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT IT HAS BEEN CANCELLED HOPEFULLY THEY CHANGE THEIR MINDS AND IT RETURNS WITH 3RD SEASON.THIS SHOW IS AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!
of course not! I LOVE THIS SHOW! at least give it a proper ending! Ep. 20 was too much of a cliffhanger! i want more of 10 things I Hate About You!!
Nooooooo, ABC Family made the wrong, wrong choice as a monther of a teenage daughter this was the one show we could sit down and watch every week! It was a perfect mix, do not force me to go back to crapy Disney shows! Dont blame the us for low rating YOU moved the show to Monday. Move it back to Tuesday or even Wednesday and I promise you the ratings will bounce right back up. Please, please save this show!!!!
This show is amazing and ABC Family is making a huge mistake in canceling the show. Did anyone of the head honchos think that maybe the viewer rating went down because of the day change?!? I mean, if you look online the 1o things vids have thousands and even millions of views.
FYI
I don’t have ABC Family so I have to watch it online. It is one of the few shows I actually take the time to stay up to date on since it is so good.
No ABC Family did not make the right choice. I for example watched every episode when it was on on tuesdays, but now they switched it to mondays, and i cannot watch it on mondays, so i have to watch it on the internet. i still watch every episode, but not when they air on tv. ABC family should have though that maybe the time slot they choose this second season is the problem, because it’s pretty obvious that there are plenty of viewers that love the show!
It was not the fans fault but the idiot’s who decided to change the time slot. For the first 3 or 4 episodes, I believed it was at 9pm so I always missed it! last season was also aired on tuesdays instead of mondays so many people were confused! it’s such a shame because it was the only show really worth watching on ABC family
NOO! ABC shouldn’t have cancelled 10 things I about you. It my favorite show of all time. There was a problem where I’m living though the channel doesn’t work in regular cable. Maybe that’s why a part ratings were down. But please to cancel the show. it’s the only show worth watching on ABC. There no competion with the others. So please reconsider.
please keep it i want to find out what happens next.
This show was so good. I didn’t have ABC family so I could only watch it online, but I looked forward to tuesdays when I could watch it. It ended with such a cliffhanger that it is unfair to all the viewers that really want to see what happens next. I’m sure that the only reason the ratings were lower was because of the time slot. I doubt anyone would object to the show returning, even if it wasn’t at the monday night time slot.
oh please i love this show don’t let it be over just because some viewers just stop watching it, as long as there is an audience the t.v. should still be going.
