The executive producer of ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You has confirmed that the TV show has been cancelled after two seasons. How quickly things can change.
Based on the film of the same name that starred Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Heath Ledger, 10 Things I Hate About You revolves around two very different high school sisters and their friends and partners. The series features the talents of Lindsey Shaw, Meaghan Jette Martin, Ethan Peck, Nicholas Braun, Dana Davis, Larry Miller, Kyle Kaplan, Ally Maki, Chris Zylka, Jolene Purdy, Allie Gonino, and Suzy Nakamura.
The series got off to a great start in July 2009 and ABC Family touted it as the cable channel’s biggest comedy debut to date. It attracted 1.6 million viewers and 734,000 in the coveted 18-49 demo. The news got even better by week four as the show’s ratings grew to 1.8 million viewers and 782,000 in the demo. Season one ended up averaging 1.3 million viewers.
To no surprise, ABC Family renewed the series for a second season of another 10 episodes.

Unfortunately, something happened between seasons one and two. When the 10 Things returned in late March, a lot of the show’s viewers didn’t. Thus far, it’s been averaging just 983,000 viewers. That’s enough for ABC Family to pull the plug, just 10 months after the show’s highly touted debut.
The show’s creator and executive producer, Carter Covington, announced the show’s fate on Twitter: “Sad news… ABCFamily canceled the show 🙁 Thanks 2 our AMAZING fans – U R the reason I do this! Enjoy the last 5 eps – they’re fantastic!”
The remaining five episodes of 10 Things will continue to roll out until May 31st. Since the cancellation comes as a surprise, there’s no word if the series finale will include closure or if storylines will be left unresolved.

ABC what the hell r u thinking??? this show comes from an amazing movie! and its really great… i think everyone thinks same way .. 🙁 its really sad what u r doing 2 the fans… should think about that.

this show was even worse than the film
I’m very disappointed that the show is cancelled. I think it’s a wonderfully written show with a great cast with a fun plot line every week. I have really enjoyed watching it! Just because people aren’t tuning in to the premiere night doesn’t mean they aren’t watching it; personally, I watch it online because I’m usually not home to see it on TV. I really hope ABC Family will consider not cancelling it! Please and thank you!

omg noo! i think i may have a theory on why the ratings went down, recently abc family has been taken off many cable companies, for example everybody in my area lost abc family, style network and weather channel! please dont cancel!! check out online ratings!

I personally watch episodes in parts online because I don’t have to time to watch it otherwise. I love this show! I loved the movie as well! I think it would of been a totally smarter move to continue the show and not end the way they did. So many fans are disappointed in ABC Family….
that’s some BS. this show was funny and cute and a refreshing change from all the drama that is geared toward teens these days. i just started watching it on Hulu a couple months ago, and i enjoyed it. i didn’t think the ending of season 2 was even a season finale, so i found it hard to believe they would try to call it a series finale. i’m disappointed. i really wanted more. i don’t know why they’d continue secret life and not this. boo on abc family. 🙁
I am horribly upset, disgusted, and IRATE at such a lame excuse to cancel a show. Excuse me theres not a couple Billion people to watch it, but the whole 900 thousand + some who are watching are expecting some sort of ending. Just goes to show how selfish some people can be. This is the first show that i actually ever watched. Its the most interesting thing I’ve ever seen. & I am admitting that i cried when i heard the cancellation of this show. this was my favorite show ever… i was hooked… i finished my hw early every tuesday night so that i could watch it… absolutely bummed that it was canceled… i was a dedicated fan for this show… if theres any way to get it back, im all for it! ive seen all 20 episodes and when i saw episode 20, i was so upset because the storyline remained unfinished and i will never know what happens next ]:
this show was a cute fun show and the ending left me wanting more….why end shows in that manner…television is really annoying with all the cancelled shows because of low ratings….that is dumb to think that it didnt have ratings.people dont sit n watch tv anymore like before.they wait to rent shows on netflix or from their on demand channels or maybe dvr recordings change the ratings….
