The executive producer of ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You has confirmed that the TV show has been cancelled after two seasons. How quickly things can change.
Based on the film of the same name that starred Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Heath Ledger, 10 Things I Hate About You revolves around two very different high school sisters and their friends and partners. The series features the talents of Lindsey Shaw, Meaghan Jette Martin, Ethan Peck, Nicholas Braun, Dana Davis, Larry Miller, Kyle Kaplan, Ally Maki, Chris Zylka, Jolene Purdy, Allie Gonino, and Suzy Nakamura.
The series got off to a great start in July 2009 and ABC Family touted it as the cable channel’s biggest comedy debut to date. It attracted 1.6 million viewers and 734,000 in the coveted 18-49 demo. The news got even better by week four as the show’s ratings grew to 1.8 million viewers and 782,000 in the demo. Season one ended up averaging 1.3 million viewers.
To no surprise, ABC Family renewed the series for a second season of another 10 episodes.

Unfortunately, something happened between seasons one and two. When the 10 Things returned in late March, a lot of the show’s viewers didn’t. Thus far, it’s been averaging just 983,000 viewers. That’s enough for ABC Family to pull the plug, just 10 months after the show’s highly touted debut.
The show’s creator and executive producer, Carter Covington, announced the show’s fate on Twitter: “Sad news… ABCFamily canceled the show 🙁 Thanks 2 our AMAZING fans – U R the reason I do this! Enjoy the last 5 eps – they’re fantastic!”
The remaining five episodes of 10 Things will continue to roll out until May 31st. Since the cancellation comes as a surprise, there’s no word if the series finale will include closure or if storylines will be left unresolved.

I love “10 Things”. Its a great show, and betcha millions of people will be extremely sad to see it go. I wish there is something I could do to stop it from cancelling. 🙁
I love this show, it’s the only reason i watch ABC Family.
i admit, i stopped watching it just because it took so long for SEASON 2 to come out! it’s not because i didn’t like thow show, i really love watching it. please don’t cancel the show! it’s my favorite tv show by far, it’s just that they really need to speed up the process and advertise a lot for the premieres of the new season. this is one of the most legit shows by far, the secret life is BORING. this needs to stay!
In this week Sunday newspaper (05/16/10-05/22/10) Target has 10 things I hate about you series 1 on DVD for$10.00. RUNNNNNNNNNNN!
I’m sad to see this show end. There aren’t too many new shows I’m watching these days, especially since they’re mostly selling filth. This was one of the very few that I thought was worth watching and recording. Hoping ABC reconsiders.
I think they should try putting it on another channel and foxtel that will get ALOT!!!!! more viewers and ALOT!! more fans!! They cannot do this 10 things i hate about you is my FAVOURITE show!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please don’t cancel this show! I’m a freshmen in high school, with 3 older brothers in high school also. Next year my younger sister will be entering the jungle too. 10 Things I Hate About You is a representation of the real life problems that will be met through-out those unforgettable 4 years. I watch it every Monday and so do my many friends, family, and my fellow students. This show is actually real. The episodes include actual events that happen in school. ABC please don’t cancel this show! It’s one of the best television shows ever made! It’s funny and smart and – for the most part – family friendly unlike so many shows ABC Family creates. I believe that another season should be created, and THEN ABC should make a decison. Has the viewer numbers really dropped THAT much?

My daughter and I watch this show every Monday. Its a show that we actually agree on, and it has only gotten better. I dont think ABC family tried to save the show. I rarely saw advertising for it like Secret Life and no attempt to move days to see if that fixed the issue. I know I had to google to figure out when it came back this season. Hopefully they will end it with closure or at least on the DVD, but I heard it ends on a cliff hanger. So sad.

I like some of the storyline for this show but to be honest it didn’t grab my attention like the other ones ala Greek, Secret Life and Make it or Break it. The choice was House & Chuck that had to be DVR’d which left no space for 10 things…Perhaps ABCfam could try another day besides Monday. Maybe this one woulda lasted longer.

Only i don’t watch chuck…. Have both 10 things and House scheduled on DVR… Monday and Tuesday my DVR is over booked…
Please don’t cancel this show. It actually has some meaning behind it. Try just one more season to tie things up.
