The executive producer of ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You has confirmed that the TV show has been cancelled after two seasons. How quickly things can change.
Based on the film of the same name that starred Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Heath Ledger, 10 Things I Hate About You revolves around two very different high school sisters and their friends and partners. The series features the talents of Lindsey Shaw, Meaghan Jette Martin, Ethan Peck, Nicholas Braun, Dana Davis, Larry Miller, Kyle Kaplan, Ally Maki, Chris Zylka, Jolene Purdy, Allie Gonino, and Suzy Nakamura.
The series got off to a great start in July 2009 and ABC Family touted it as the cable channel’s biggest comedy debut to date. It attracted 1.6 million viewers and 734,000 in the coveted 18-49 demo. The news got even better by week four as the show’s ratings grew to 1.8 million viewers and 782,000 in the demo. Season one ended up averaging 1.3 million viewers.
To no surprise, ABC Family renewed the series for a second season of another 10 episodes.

Unfortunately, something happened between seasons one and two. When the 10 Things returned in late March, a lot of the show’s viewers didn’t. Thus far, it’s been averaging just 983,000 viewers. That’s enough for ABC Family to pull the plug, just 10 months after the show’s highly touted debut.
The show’s creator and executive producer, Carter Covington, announced the show’s fate on Twitter: “Sad news… ABCFamily canceled the show 🙁 Thanks 2 our AMAZING fans – U R the reason I do this! Enjoy the last 5 eps – they’re fantastic!”
The remaining five episodes of 10 Things will continue to roll out until May 31st. Since the cancellation comes as a surprise, there’s no word if the series finale will include closure or if storylines will be left unresolved.

please nooo just because i cant catch it every single monday doesnt mean i watch every single episode. I do and i love the show its my favirote thing on mondays its what i look forward to!! and i am sure im not the only one
This is disgusting. I hope this comment reaches whatever idiot decided to cancel this show. 1. Secret Life sucks. It is sending an awful message to the audience, and it seems like they are doing what ever they can to keep their ratings up (by having every character sleep with EVERYONE) 2. Once this show is cancelled, I will no longer watch ANYTHING Abc family puts out. I am too disappointed in them. This is Destiny’s younger brouther Dexter and I am angry. This is Bull 10 things I hate about you should not be going off it should have 1 more season. That stupid secret life of a american is on when should not be still on and about to have another season that should be 10 things I hate about you that should still be having. WHO EVER IS CANCELING THIS 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU SHOW IS STUPID AS S*** AND IS A DUMB A**.
10 Things is witty, charming, clever, and I only discoverd it a month ago! And now it’s cancelled? Because the ratings dropped a little? Then “Secret Life….” keeps going? All they do on that show is talk talk talk talk talk talk talk and then talk some more. It’s just pretty people standing there and talking about all the other characters who are offscreen. The last show that was that annoying was “7th Heaven” which kept “Everwood” from being renewed a few years back. And that’s all that 7th Heaven was, too. Pretty people standing around talking talking talking.
I love this show and I am angry that ABC Family has cancelled it. I agree that they have some other shows that should have been cancelled instead. I also agree that Dancing probably took away viewers. I wonder if loyal viewers didn’t know the second season was starting because it came on in March rather than September. Honestly, I found it again beause I had not deleated it from my DVR recordings. If I had deleated it I think I would have missed season two. I think it is stupid that 10 things is ending i mean it was a good show unlike secretlife of the american teenager praising teenage pregnacy.10 things i hate about you was actually real and not staged like secret life whose parent would not be mad if they were pregnant.10 things i hate about you should try another season and if all goes well keep the show and if it goes bad out you go i mean if the show were as broadcasted as all of abc families other shows more people would watch it .i would always do all… Read more »
thats ridiculous! i loved 1o things, they had good actors and story lines but now i guess i will be stuck watching secret life and all the terrible acting in that show
i agree the show is just praising teen pregnancy and they wonder why so many teens are pregnant these days i mean they probally are thinking oh i will get on a show
Please, renew this show!!! Don´t cancel it. I live in Slovakia and I´m looking forward to each Monday to watch this cool funny show. It´s really great!!!
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL…….GIVE IT ONE MORE SEASON….I finally found a good show and it’s being taken off the air. I look forward to Monday nights…..If enough fans write in maybe they will reconsider…it is definately worth a try to save our show!!!!!
This is disgusting. I fell in love with this show. It made Mondays worth waiting for. The fans absolutely adore the cast, and how well they all interacted with eachother. It’s not the “Fans” fault that the show is being canceled. It’s how DIFFERENT the show is from the actual movie. If the screwed up writers had put in a bit more effort to relate the show to the movie; maybe the audience numbers wouldn’t have declined so drastically. I really like this show, but since Dancing With the Stars was moved to the 8 o’clock slot I believe this hurt the ratings of 10 Things.
What??? Cancel Secret Life before this! At least 10 Things is funny. Secret Life is awkward acting and horrible plot lines.

ABC Family started charging to watch the show online, you had to wait until friday to watch. This could have affected viwers following the plot line. I also think they should have waited longer for the characters to date, it seems like there is no mystery and the character Joey is loveable. They should have made it more teen angsty.
NOOOOOOO. I love this show. ABC Family please rething this decision. I watched the movie a couple of times and I watch the show every Monday. This year I even read the Shakespeare play that this show is based on: “The Taming of the Shrew.” Please continue the show. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t understand how ABC Family can cancel a show that has a huge following. Can they only base the popularity solely on ratings? It’s ridiculous. The fans are complaining- our efforts aren’t going to go unnoticed.
