Sometimes, TV shows that are based movies can be big successes. Sometimes not. About a Boy was not and now NBC has cancelled it after two seasons without even airing all of the episodes.
About a Boy revolves around San Francisco songwriter Will Freeman (David Walton) who had a big hit. It set him up for life financially — and gave him a lot of freedom and free time. His world is turned upside down when a charming boy named Marcus (Benjamin Stockham) and single mom named Fiona (Minnie Driver) move in next door.
The sitcom debuted in February of 2014 with a special preview episode that attracted a healthy 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. In its regular timeslot a week later, the ratings rose a bit to a 2.47 rating with 8.36 million. The numbers started falling after that but NBC still renewed it for a second season.
Season two performed even worse and lost a lot of steam. It hit a new series low of a 0.69 rating in the demo with 2.41 million viewers. NBC decided to trim About a Boy’s episode order by two and then opted to drop it from the schedule, leaving six installments unaired.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to air the leftover episodes and, now that they’ve cancelled the series, it doesn’t look likely that they will.
What do you think? Do you like the About a Boy sitcom? Would you like to watch the remaining six episodes?
i discovered this show on netflix! and i can’t get enough of it! bring it back!!!
I love this show too! The actors are so so great and endearing! I must confess I have a crush on
Davis Walton now ☺️ I heard he is absolutely charming in the real life, so it makes sense and it is so good to watch his character’s afection for the boy. I found the show because of Netflix too. I really hope Netflix picks it up for a 3rd season. Lovely lovely, I hope the actors/writers/producers are reading the comments so many people that love the show after finding it on Netflix.
The reason they cancelled the series isnt a real reason because not all people watch their series on the T.V I discovered it on Netflix and I loved it, it must come back. PLEASE! We are three in this house that wanted
I never heard of this show until I saw it on Netflix. great show, sad that is was such a short lived show
I have been a devoted watcher since the release a few years ago. I’m really irritated that it’s not going to keep going. I feel like it would be a well watched and loved show, but not many people even knew about the show, until Netflix released it. Make it a Netflix Exclusive if you have to. Just don’t quit it!!!!
I loved this show! I only just found it on Netflix but it really grabbed my attention. I am disappointed to find out it was cancelled. They left it on a big cliff hanger and I would love to see how it ends. It would be great if the episodes were released to Netflix. I’m sure if Netflix picked up the show it would gain a lot of popularity back.
Why was it cancelled???? It’s an amazing show. Please bring the show back at least for another season so we aren’t left hanging. ..
Just watched all of season 2 on Netflix, and it leaves you hanging! I wish Netflix would pick it up and at least give it one last season.
