American Koko is coming to ABCd. Deadline reports ABC’s streaming service has picked up the web series from Diarra Kilpatrick.
Viola Davis is producing the series through her production company, JuVEe Productions.
Created by and starring Kilpatrick, the web series “follows a satirical agency that solves sticky racial situations.” American Koko won the American Black Film Festival’a award for Best Web Series.
Kilpatrick has written for NBC’s Mysteries of Laura and has appeared in Mike and Molly, Major Crimes, and Southland.
From Davis:
Diarra is an exceptional talent in that she cannot be put in a category. She has a unique voice that transcends her generation. American Koko is brutally honest about race relations but avoids the trap of being an indictment. Rather it is a bold, brave cultural reveal handled with sensitivity, vulnerability, honesty and humor. JuVee Productions continues our mission to be inclusive and this project fits perfectly with our vision.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Kilpatrick’s and/or Davis’ work? Will you watch American Koko?
