NBC has cancelled Awake, their cop series with an alternate reality twist. Created by Kyle Killen (Lone Star), the 13th and final episode will air on Thursday, May 24th. Sadly we might never learn exactly what was going on in the head of Detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs).
Fans of this unique TV series are understandably upset and the cast and crew aren’t too crazy about the news either. Here’s what they had to say:
Wilmer Valderrama (Efrem Vega): “Wanted 2 say thank you 2 all our amazing fans 4 being so loyal & loving our @NBCAwake.. We believed in the show &…And put our hearts in every Ep.. We made something that had never been on TV, we are proud of the journey.. And grateful to… Have shared it with you all, we love you.. Make sure to NOT miss our season closing episodes.. We will finish with a bang.. LITERALLY!”
Laura Allen (Hannah Britten): “Circle of life. Back in the ring! Truly, thank you for all who watched. #Awake. #NBC. #whoknowsimight’vebeendeadthewholetimeanyway.”
Dylan Minnette (Rex Britten): “2 more episodes until the finale of #Awake We had such a good run, and the show, despite this, was truly great.” “It was an incredible experience working with everyone, thank you for the opportunity. Couldn’t have been blessed with a better cast and crew” To the cast and crew, he wrote, “You are all so talented, I’m so grateful that I had the chance to work with all of you!… Thank you all so much!”
BD Wong (Therapist John Lee) retweeted a lot of others’ comments and simply wrote, “what a lousy way to wake up from a nap!”
Daniela Bobadilla (Emma): “Sad to be writing this tweet.. From the bottom of my heart I am beyond grateful for the opportunity and experience I had on #Awake. Love…every single person on the cast and crew. So proud to have been part of such an intelligent, cool show. Thank you @killen8!!! :):):)”
Michaela McManus (Tara): “Thanks to everyone who tuned in these past couple months. Very sorry to say good-bye… #RIPAwake”
Nicole Burke (first assistant director): “Just got the bad news #awake was cancelled. Thank you to all the fans that watched and to the talented cast & crew.” “To the brain behind #AWAKE @killen8 Thank you for a wild and crazy ride. I enjoyed every minute well maybe every minute. Till next time!”
Kyle Killen (creator, executive producer): “no, don’t see us taking awake anywhere else. yes, the season finale is a really satisfying way to go out. our best EP + penguin” “guys its cool. awake lasted 600% longer than lone star. at that rate next 1 be on until end of time. now, anyone know if Whitney is hiring?” “that was not meant to be shot at Whitney #promise #justlookingforplacetotakeairmattress”
Lost’s Damon Lindelof wrote to Killen, “Small consolation, but I believe AWAKE will still be talked about in a decade. And fondly.” Killen responded, “thank you. I’ve always wanted to say to someone “you’re a prince” and this seems like the opportunity I’ve been waiting for!”
Josh Friedman, who’s Finder series was also cancelled, wrote, “I choose to live in a version of my life where @killen8 ‘s #Awake is still on the air.”
What do you think? Are you also upset that Awake won’t be coming back for a second season? What would you say to the cast and crew about the program?

Please do NOT cancel this show! My husband and I are two hard working professionals and find AWAKE the one show makes the viewer think. Please reconsider —-
People need to realize that television is a business. They don’t cancel shows to slight you personally. If the show isn’t being watched (and although YOU watch doesn’t mean others are), then the show doesn’t bring in ad revenue.
Therefor, the company loses money by keeping it on the air.
All the comments on this site make it seem as if the television companies are cancelling just to insult or anger the people here.
It’s a business.
People do understand this, it’s not all NBC’s fault, the American public didn’t watch in enough numbers unfortunately for whatever reasons but Awake seems to have worldwide appeal looking at comments on other sites and has been bought by many countries so it needn’t have all been about the US. Not exporting is bad business for NBC.
I started watching this tv show mid season while on holidays in america and when i came back home i made the effort of catching up with it and watched it every week. I LOVED this show and even my mum and brother got into it. i could really see it becoming a tv show a network could be proud of; intellegent, complicated, heartfelt, strong. So what do they do? they cancel it! big mistake.
So upset to hear this!!! I love this show!!! Such a great story!!! All great acting,!!! I hope someone will pick this up!!! They always take away great shows and leave the dumbest ones on! So mad!!! Love you all!!!
This really was a breath of fresh air compared to the average cop show which are on the whole boring and formulaic. Written with wit and intelligence this got a hook into you very quickly, was eagerly anticipated every week and will be missed. Wonderful cast and penguin! Will deinitely buy on Blu Ray which is something I cannot say about many other shows…well apart from Fringe. May I wish the NBC executive responsible for cancelling this a short and lacklustre career, you nincompoop.
Terribly bad decision on nbc’s part. Show was incredibly written with a great cast.
never watch shows on this network, when they begin. Better off waiting to see if it makes it past season 1, and then stream it. They suck!
How can I help keep this on the air? Might a cable network pick it up? It’s clearly too good for NBC!!!!!
Sign the following petition to have Awake renewed.

Tell NBC how disappointed you are and that Awake needs to carry on.
Where/how can we petition to save this show?? Have it put on another network! I’ll follow it. It was just getting really really good. Love this show…. so bummed out.
I don’t watch a lot of TV and even more rarely get “hooked” on a dramatic or comedic series, but after the first two episodes I couldn’t wait wait for each subsequent one. This show was very well-written, the main characters were great and the actors who inhabited them were awesome. Without even knowing what might replace it I can almost guarantee that it will not be as good.
Sorry to read about the cancellation of “Awake” but it seemed inevitable. Even during the pilot it was clear to me that this was too complex for mainstream major networks. The producers should have pursued someone like FX; I think it would have found a home there. Despite only one season, I hope someone will make it available on DVD.
I’m looking forward to Mr. Killen’s next project.
Please dont end “Awake” amazing storyline, great show. I have watched every episode and it pulls you in, such an interesting story. This show deserves to be brought to cable. Nicole Burke and Kyle Killen Please reconsider and give this show what it deserves a real chance, you wont be disappointed and nether will the rest of the world. What a wonderful and talented cast, they have done a great job. I pray that you have a change of heart and not let NBC ruin this show. Godbless
Sigh… Yet another great show cancelled! Maybe you guys could write a book series or make a movie filling us in on the rest of the story! I will always wonder now!
You were all wonderful in this show. It was different and original. Not the usual formula cop show. I’m so sad for the cast, the writers, producers and for the viewers. We were looking forward to many years of thoughtful viewing. Not too be. Alas.
Great acting in the show. It was a privilege to watch such good work. Too bad NBC does not have the intelligence to keep the show on the air in the 9:00 p.m. slot. What now ? A reality show at a sleep clinic?
Oh my god, NO! this show can’t be canceled!!
