NBC cancelled lifeguard action drama, Baywatch, after its first season. Believing the series had legs as well as other assets, star David Hasselhoff, along with the creators and executive producers, brought it to first-run syndication, where it aired for ten more seasons, and a total of 243 hour-long episodes.
Paramount Pictures is reviving Baywatch with a big screen adaptation, directed by Seth Gordon, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Zac Efron. Deadline reports production has leaked a shortlist of potential female leads including Alexandra Daddario, Ashley Benson, Nina Dobrev, Alexandra Shipp, Shelley Hennig, Bianca Santos, and Denyse Tontz.
From Deadline:
Now, it’s possible they will expand the search, and it’s also possible some of these young actresses will play other roles in the film, but we’ll know soon as they lock in for an early 2016 production start.
In the film, a hotshot former Olympian butts heads with the leader of an elite team of lifeguards. Damian Shannon & Mark Swift wrote the latest draft. Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman are producing. Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions will also produce in some capacity.
