Last week, the FOX network debuted a new reality TV series called Buried Treasure. Will this one be a goldmine for the network like American Idol or dead weight that will be quickly cancelled?
Buried Treasure follows twin brothers and appraisers Leigh and Leslie Keno as they visit people’s homes. Appearing as appraisers on the PBS series Antique Roadshow, the “treasure hunters” help people discover that some of the items in their homes may be worth a lot more than they know. For example, the old cabinet that was your grandmother’s might be worth enough to wipe out your credit card debt or pay for your kid’s college education. Viewers also get to see how these discoveries affect the owner’s lives.
The TV show debuted last Wednesday to a very disappointing 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 3.67 million viewers. It ranked fourth in its timeslot, well behind CBS’ Big Brother, NBC’s Minute to Win It, and a repeat of ABC’s The Middle. Buried Treasure is currently the lowest-rated FOX series of the summer schedule.
By running Buried Treasure in the middle of summer, FOX obviously doesn’t have a lot of faith in the show and, based on the ratings, it doesn’t look like they were off base. Still, they aren’t pulling the series and are instead adding encores to the schedule for added exposure. This Wednesday’s original installment will be followed by a repeat of the premiere. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to help.
Coming from ITV Studios, only four episodes of Buried Treasure have been produced. It seems likely that FOX will air them all but there’s simply no reason for the network to order any more.
But, what do you think? Is Buried Treasure worth watching? Would you renew it for another season or should it be quickly cancelled instead?

keep it-
ps if the show can contact me i may have something of interest
Keep this show! It’s very entertaining and educational. Much better than the drivel opposite it.
KEEP IT…DEFINITELY! I love Storage Wars and Pawn Stars, etc., but thought this was the best show of that kind. I hope it continues every week for a long, long time!
I Love The Show, Please keep it.
Love the Show
PLEASE keep this show!! it’s fantastic to know about history and culture, and the Keno brothers are simply fantastic and charismatic and interesting…and who doesn’t want to watch a show that includes making money for almost everybody? How shameful of Fox to do no advertising of the show…..and to put it in the summer, and especially against America’s Got Talent? what kind of marketing is that?
I was very disappointed in the first segment to watch the program switch to a commercial just as the announcement was being made as to what the violin was worth. Could you answer the question as to its appraised value?
Please keep this new reality show on the air. Love the Keno brothers and love actually learning about antiques on this new show. SO much better than the average reality show and I hope it will be on for a long time!
I love the show, very interesting. Makes you want to look in the attic…
Keep it I love it!
Please keep it!! Very interesting to me!
Learning about antiques & collectables is very wise info in any economy. We never stop learning.
I would like this show to run for at least 5 years. Very entertaining!
Cancel all reality shows. They are a waste of viewing time and air space. You need to
replace them with the good shows that you canceled. What’s the matter ? You afraid to
spend the money ? My mother always told me that you get what you pay for.
If you are CHEAP, you get a cheap, worthless product.
keep the show very exciting to watch and learn ….
