Veteran actress Patricia Heaton is best known for her roles on long-running sitcoms Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle. However, she has also starred in comedy series like Back to You and Room for Two that have only lasted one season apiece. How will her newest CBS show perform in the ratings? Will Carol’s Second Act be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A multi-camera sitcom, the Carol’s Second Act TV series stars Patricia Heaton, Kyle MacLachlan, Ito Aghayere, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Sabrina Jalees, and Ashley Tisdale, with Lucas Neff recurring. This comedy series revolves around Carol Kenney (Heaton), a woman in her 50s who has embarked on a unique second act after raising her children, getting divorced, and retiring from teaching. She pursues her dream of becoming a doctor. On Carol’s first day at work at Loyola Memorial Hospital, she’s prepped with an abundance of life experience, people skills, talent, and enthusiasm — advantages that her co-workers don’t immediately appreciate.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Carol’s Second Act TV series on CBS? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
*5/6/20 update: Carol’s Second Act has been cancelled on CBS.
Horrible sit com only watch if nothing else on. not funny at all. cancel
Horrible show. Poorly scripted for a medical show. Embarrassing.
I love Patricia Heaton, I watched her on Raymond and loved her on The Middle. But this show is terrible. I’m all for her being on another show, she’s great, but this show is NOT the one. Scratch it and try again.
Dumb please cancel.
Shame…I love Patricia Heaton…and had high hopes/was excited – to hear she was coming back in a new series. I enjoyed her SO MUCH—in “The Middle” & “Everybody Loves Raymond”. [In all fairness to her…THOSE parts she played and the stellar groups of co-stars she had in them, would be hard to beat!]. I don’t find her new show that consistently funny, nor her cast mates that likeable! Her “comedy delivery” doesn’t seem ‘natural’ or smooth, and I agree ~ the canned laughter is annoying!
Boring too much canned laughter
Remove the laugh track
Cancel. Dumb show.
I love Patricia Heaton BUT not this show. Her character is not really likable and show just not funny.
Please cancel this most-boring show!!
This “show” is boring at best. Too bad – I was hoping for something better (i.e. “The Resident”). Please do us a favor and cancel it!! 🙁
I watched the first few minutes and only heard that annoying noise called a laugh track. I will watch no more!
Patricia Heaton falls flat, almost to the point of being annoying. Show should not be renewed. She can do better.
I think it should be cancelled. The characters have no chemistry and the writing seems stale. I usually like Patricia Heaton, but not in this show.
I absolutely love Carol’s Second Act! I record it and watch several times. I just retired from nursing after 36 years. I was in Cardiac ICU. This show is hysterical and believable. I love Carol’s enthusiasm and energy. It’s timing is perfect. I really hope this is renewed. Patricia is an amazing actress!
I completely agree with Patti O. I love Carol’s Second Act! I record it also and laugh out loud. Very few shows are that on target with the humor. Her relationships with her medical team are so true to real life. My friends love it, too. I hope it is renewed. Patricia Heaton is the best!
Its not humor its just corny and the writing is so bad that a kid said ” I rather go to bed than watch this!”
This is one of the best shows on TV. I look forward to watching the show each week.
