Beckett and Castle will be back on the case next season. Their TV show has been renewed for a fifth year by ABC.
Though the demo ratings for Castle have been on the decline this season, ABC has given the go-ahead for another round of episodes. Airing on Monday nights, Castle’s fourth season averaged a 2.3 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 10.71 million viewers.
Year-to-year, the demo is down by 15%. Interestingly, the total viewership is almost exactly the same. That would seem to indicate that the show has picked up older viewers (Dancing with the Stars has also been declining but skews older) but lost some younger ones — potentially to NBC’s Smash.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo performance of shows on the network, Castle has a “C+” grade. It’s #12 on the demo list of scripted shows but ranks #2 in terms of total viewers.

Though the ratings were enough to put the show “on the bubble,” it realistically wasn’t in any danger of being cancelled. ABC hasn’t had much luck finding successful new hour dramas this season.
More importantly, Castle presently has 81 episodes and that’s not really enough for a full syndication package. Last June, TNT picked up the cable rights to for Castle so ABC Studios has additional financial incentive to keep the show around.
ABC announces their 2012-13 schedule next week so we’ll know by then if Castle will stay on Monday nights or pop up on another evening instead. Either way, you can expect it to return next fall.

i had known about the show but had not taken time to watch it so i did and i think it it is one alright series i like the whole cast and i really like castle and beckette together they make a neat couple on the series i do hope they put them together this next season for this time i will be waiting to see the new season just hope they are going to renew it i have been recording all of the episodes i can for my tv collection. so good luck castle cast for an new season.… Read more »
I just started watching Castle on TNT and I love it.
Castle is a great show it has charm, great characters,and a story. Unlike the reality shows questionable acting ability,story line,and many just plain obnoxious.
Castle is the BEST show on tv! If they get canceled I want to know wher ever cast member is going so I can see more of their excellent work, especially Nathan Fillion. He is a FANTASTIC actor. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL CASTLE 🙁
The quality of scripts has remained high. The whole Castle family – daughter, Mom, not-so-much ex-wife is a good mix. Love Susan Sullivan!!
I love Castle. I enjoy looking forward to watching every Monday eveing. I hate reality programs. They are a waste of my time.
I discoverd Castle just this year when I was home sick and come to love it. I’m sick of reality shows, they are so stupid. Castle was a , pardon the expression, a breath of fresh air. I watch Nathan Fillon in other things and was glad to see he does comedy very well. It is fun to watch how he irritates Beckett.
My wife and I love castle. It’s one of the few shows that we look foward to every week. Please don’t cancel Castle.
