This evening, TNT airs the final two episodes of Dallas’ second season and, unlike the price of oil, the ratings have been down. Will the TV series return for a third season or will it be cancelled instead?
The new Dallas picks up several years after the original show ended. Time has passed but the Ewings and the Barnes are still at each others’ throats. And, though Larry Hagman passed away, there’s still plenty of drama at Southfork. The cast includes Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Judith Light.
Last season, the new Dallas was one of TNT’s most-watched dramas, averaging 4.42 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
This time around, the ratings weren’t so hot. The second season has averaged 2.64 million with a 0.8 demo rating. The numbers spiked for the JR Ewing funeral episode but they went back down the following week.
While the ratings admittedly haven’t been as strong this time around, Dallas is still TNT’s best performing show right now. Both Monday Mornings and Southland have only been averaging about 1.4 million viewers.
The cable channel also knows that the show is facing a lot more competition at this time of year — compared to when the first season aired last summer.
While TNT hasn’t cancelled or renewed Dallas yet, it seems very likely that the Ewings will return for another round of in-fighting and deception.
What do you think? Would you like to see Dallas return? Is the show as enjoyable as it once was? Should TNT move it back to summer?
Bring it back! It’s fun.
bring it back my favorite show!
I was a dedicated Dallas fan from way back for years and was very disappointed when it was taken off the air the first time. I am hooked on the new series as well and think the writing, actors and plot are wonderful. Although I will miss Larry Hagman (he was the best), I think John Ross will keep things interesting (the apple does’nt fall far from the tree) and Bobby, Ann, Christopher, Elaina, Pam and all the other characters are great. I hope to enjoy this new series for years to come. Please keep it on and give it… Read more »
I love, love, love this show. i love the story line. I love John Ross and Pamela together. Please bring it back. Reminds me so much of the old Dallas. The writers have done a fantastic job. I also want the name of Linda Gray’s plastic surgeon. She looks fantastic!
This show is awesome! Much better than the original. Most reboot aren’t very good. The new characters are usually mediocre. The ones on Dallas are great and the writers do a good job of working in the new and old cast. Their is a lot of intrigue and action to keep you glued to your seat. Monday night is a killer night. If tnt moves it to another night the ratings will go way up. This show has been the only decent reboot besides Melrose Place which was short-lived. Hope for a season three!
I love, love, love this show I leave my meetings early on monday nights. It couldnt be any better
The show is hot, intriguing, and has the showmanship and drama that’s missing from television today. Families should watch this show together.

Bring it back during the summer. It is still great.
I like it I did when it was first on. Always looking
forward to the next week’s program. Bring
it back, PLEASE
Bring it back to the summer in the time slot it was performing well in… Wednesday nights… why mess with something that works? !!!
Great show… they need to slow down the story lines, and extend the number of episodes… seems like things are happening a little too fast… unrealistic! If that much drama happened in such a short time.. I would move! LOL Great show… would not miss it!

Definitely keep it!!!! Loved Dallas the first time and this show is as good as the first. So sorry J.R. is not with us.
Dallas is the one shows that I c’ant wait every week to watch. The writing is amazing the new cast mixed in with the original cast is awesome. The sries better be renewed.
Bring it back. I always look forward to watching it every week.
i practically sleep through this. the writing is pitiful, and some of the characters can’t act their way out of a paper bag. let it die peacefully. mercifully.
Well Chuckey, maybe you should watch something else, so then you won’t have to complain. I mean if it bores you that much, just turn the channel.
Please keep Dallas going!!!
