This evening, TNT airs the final two episodes of Dallas’ second season and, unlike the price of oil, the ratings have been down. Will the TV series return for a third season or will it be cancelled instead?
The new Dallas picks up several years after the original show ended. Time has passed but the Ewings and the Barnes are still at each others’ throats. And, though Larry Hagman passed away, there’s still plenty of drama at Southfork. The cast includes Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Judith Light.
Last season, the new Dallas was one of TNT’s most-watched dramas, averaging 4.42 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
This time around, the ratings weren’t so hot. The second season has averaged 2.64 million with a 0.8 demo rating. The numbers spiked for the JR Ewing funeral episode but they went back down the following week.
While the ratings admittedly haven’t been as strong this time around, Dallas is still TNT’s best performing show right now. Both Monday Mornings and Southland have only been averaging about 1.4 million viewers.
The cable channel also knows that the show is facing a lot more competition at this time of year — compared to when the first season aired last summer.
While TNT hasn’t cancelled or renewed Dallas yet, it seems very likely that the Ewings will return for another round of in-fighting and deception.
What do you think? Would you like to see Dallas return? Is the show as enjoyable as it once was? Should TNT move it back to summer?
Oh YES … Bring back Dallas for Season 3 !!! It is definitely a unique show with the continuing feud between the Ewings and Barnes families. I loved it back then … And my husband & I love it now!!!
great show bring it back
Please DON’T CANCEL DALLAS! Please RENEW for a third season! It is addicting!
Pls pls pls bring Dallas back… I watched it thru episode 1 with my mom religiously n after my mom passed it was announced episode 2 was coming back I was so excited so I kept the tradition with my kids! The 3 of us wud love to see it come back!
OMG!!! I love this new Dallas. I can’t wait for the next season. The intertwined old cast and new makes this the hottest show on television. The loss of JR(Larry Hangman)while tragic , puts a hot new spin on the series. I believe to boost the ratings there needs to be more advertising on the part of the network. All in all this show is an amazing comeback kid. I am 37 and I have my nieces and nephews watching. To me the teenage and twenty year old demographic is pretty good.
Love this show. Come on TNT—-renew it.
Sorry but if you ask me the show TnT should have renewed was Leverage. After they cancelled that all the shows they brought in tanked. Dallas was J.R and without him you lose most of your interest in the show
Leverage was an awesome and original show and TNT cancelled it.. just saying
I watched the original and one of my sons goes by JR.We watched the show this season and have enjoyed the deceipt and intrigue. Please renew for another season.
This story seems a bit late. Patrick Duffy already announced the third season has been picked up in an interview earler this week. It may just not air until Summer 2014 as TNT has decided to return the show to summer (when it’s ratings are much better) and they can’t possibly film a new season fast enough for 2013. It is indeed coming back. Signed. Sealed. Done.
I do like it will not be the same without J.R. Keep it on
This is the best show on TNT. The fans love this show as well as the original. One suggestion: Summer or Fall, Wed or Fri. However, what is most important is the loyal fans happiness! DALLAS ON MY TV AND ON ALL THEIR FANS’S TV’S, PERIOD!
Bring on season 3! We are currently viewing season 2 here in South Africa and I am totally addicted to the new series as I was to the original. To the writers, producers etc, think of the rest of the world as well who surely watch and love Dallas.
I have been a faithful “member” of the Ewing clan since 1978. I have followed them thru fueds, fire, divorce, dreams, and lot and lots of drama. FOurteen years and two television movies–and NOW the icing on the cake in this new TNT Dallas. Last year was WONDERFUL. This season has been EVEN BETTER AND BETTER. I mourn the loss of JR Ewing–but I definitely think there are MANY MANY more strands of JR’s webs to be unwound for both the family and for those who he “did business” with. KEEP THE EWINGS ON THE AIR!!!! I’ll be watching!!!
This show is one of the best on television, and certainly as good as the original. Please bring it back!!!
