Good news! Damages has been saved from cancellation and there will be a fourth and fifth seasons. Unfortunately, not all of the show’s fans will be able to see the new episodes.
Damages revolves around Patty Hewes (Glenn Close), a tough New York attorney. She takes on tough cases and will do just about anything to make sure her clients come out on top. Prominent castmembers have included Rose Byrne, Tate Donovan, Ted Danson, Zeljko Ivanek, Noah Bean, Anastasia Griffith, and Philip Bosco.
The FX series has been declining in the ratings for some time and the third season finale only drew 925,000 viewers. The cable channel said that they couldn’t afford to keep broadcasting the show based on those numbers. They also said they’d be open to some sort of partnership deal if Sony could find another buyer (ala the shared airings of Friday Night Lights between NBC and DirecTV).
DirecTV has come to the show’s rescue but is financing new episodes for exclusive airings, in a similar vein to the deal they made for Passions a couple years back. This means that viewers who don’t have DirecTV won’t be able to see the episodes.

“FX was very proud to have developed one of the best scripted series on television, but, in order to have a future, the show needed DirecTV and we are thrilled they stepped in,” said John Landgraf, President & General Manager, FX Networks. “Sony Pictures Television is a great production partner and we at FX Productions are excited for these next two seasons.”
Under the exclusive deal, DirecTV has ordered 20 new episodes of Damages that will play out over the course of two seasons. They’ll air on DirecTV’s exclusive 101 channel in 2011 and 2012. The satellite provider has also acquired the rights to rerun the first three seasons of Damages.
For those without DirecTV, the episodes will surely be released on DVD at some point.

Would watch it but can’t because Direct TV is horrible and is falling apart. They are losing channels.
So glad to hear there are more seasons to come. I will watch/rent/borrow/steal to get access. One of the best shows on TV in a long time.
I loved seasons one and two! It was full of suspense, Ted Dansen’s character, fallen and redeemed, kept things interesting. The third season featured, what seemed to be, fairly ‘bland’ characters. I’d be willing to give the show another try with the hope that the writing might get back to where it was in earlier seasons.
We love this show and can’t believe that it was possibly being cancelled! One of the best dramas around.
Sorry that we have to wait a fews more months to watch since we always look forward to seeing this show in the Fall.

I cannot beleive that only DirecTV is able to see this. This is one of my favorite shows of all time and have watched since the first episode. Not to mention that I have had others addicted to it as well. Please show it on other TV services. Thanks.

I loved Damages and looked forward to watching each episode. I am extremely disappointed to learn that seasons 4 & 5 will be broadcast only on Direct TV. No, I would not consider going to Direct TV for that reason. They have just lost one devoted fan!!!
Best show on TV! Superb writing, acting, characters. I am SO glad this gem has been rescued and we will be watching on Direct TV. Have already bought the first 3 seasons on DVD to pass around. Huge fan!!

Soooo disappointed!!! I have been an avid fan since Day 1. But, I don’t have DirecTV and I won’t get it just for one show, no matter how great it is. I guess we’ll have to wait for the DVDs. However, I must say that if FX had done a better job of marketing the show, this may never have happened.

I am thrilled that this show is going to continue to be shown. It is the packed with some of the best actors alive today and is sooo well written that it is actually WAY above the typical quality expected on TV.
One of the best shows on TV – superb acting, script, editing, and drama. I have no Direct TV so I’ll really miss it. Something’s wrong when reality shows seem to be instant hits and a quality show like this is eliminated. And Glen Close? Please find another show immediately!
