Good news! Damages has been saved from cancellation and there will be a fourth and fifth seasons. Unfortunately, not all of the show’s fans will be able to see the new episodes.
Damages revolves around Patty Hewes (Glenn Close), a tough New York attorney. She takes on tough cases and will do just about anything to make sure her clients come out on top. Prominent castmembers have included Rose Byrne, Tate Donovan, Ted Danson, Zeljko Ivanek, Noah Bean, Anastasia Griffith, and Philip Bosco.
The FX series has been declining in the ratings for some time and the third season finale only drew 925,000 viewers. The cable channel said that they couldn’t afford to keep broadcasting the show based on those numbers. They also said they’d be open to some sort of partnership deal if Sony could find another buyer (ala the shared airings of Friday Night Lights between NBC and DirecTV).
DirecTV has come to the show’s rescue but is financing new episodes for exclusive airings, in a similar vein to the deal they made for Passions a couple years back. This means that viewers who don’t have DirecTV won’t be able to see the episodes.

“FX was very proud to have developed one of the best scripted series on television, but, in order to have a future, the show needed DirecTV and we are thrilled they stepped in,” said John Landgraf, President & General Manager, FX Networks. “Sony Pictures Television is a great production partner and we at FX Productions are excited for these next two seasons.”
Under the exclusive deal, DirecTV has ordered 20 new episodes of Damages that will play out over the course of two seasons. They’ll air on DirecTV’s exclusive 101 channel in 2011 and 2012. The satellite provider has also acquired the rights to rerun the first three seasons of Damages.
For those without DirecTV, the episodes will surely be released on DVD at some point.

Loved, loved, loved “Damages” but would not switch to Direct TV just to get this show. Will wait for netflix.
Love Damages, but hate Direct TV more. If Direct TV was the only TV, I would read and/or watch grass grow. This is due to their lousy customer service which includes false sales presentations and harrassment. I wouldn’t watch football if the only way was on Direct TV. Loved Damages, but I will pass on Direct TV.
Not happy! We love this show as most do! It’s not quite fair to be an exclusive to DirectTV and leave so many fans behind! Corporate life in the U.S. Most everything is not fair! At least Damages has the ability to complete the story with Season 4 and 5. Guess we will have to wait for DVD to arrive.
Are you kidding? Man that stinks! I thought the show was fantastic…but to change my entire cable service around it seems a little over-indulgent, and frankly I am displeased greatly with the outcome. The only reason FX is more than happy to have them step in and take hold of it, is because they still have production rights, but what about the millions of fans (well ok…thousands, at least) who will not be able to watch it, just by paying the god-awful amount they already pay out every month to appreciate such quality cable TV programs. You should be able to see the shows online…when they changed Passions (yeah I watched Passions, lol) to DirectTV I was able to watch it online if I remember correctly.

Why are all the good shows cancelled, anything that a person needs to think about is cancelled, only the dumb, stupid shows remain, what has this country come to?

I just happend across Damages on Netflix on Monday 11/8, and I have not stopped watching it. It is one of the best tv shows I’ve ever watched. Unfortunately, we don’t have Direct TV, so I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD to watch.
My wife, Son, Daughter-in-law and I loved Damages! One of the BEST Written and Directed shows on TV…..

Please don’t cancel!! One of the best done dramas not on BBC. I’ll watch it on my computer, and order DVD. But don’t cancel it until it’s done!!!

I’m bummed. I loved this show. Unfortunately I won’t be able to see the final seasons. We tried to have DirectTV installed when we moved unfortunately we don’t have line of sight to their satellite.
