Good news! Damages has been saved from cancellation and there will be a fourth and fifth seasons. Unfortunately, not all of the show’s fans will be able to see the new episodes.
Damages revolves around Patty Hewes (Glenn Close), a tough New York attorney. She takes on tough cases and will do just about anything to make sure her clients come out on top. Prominent castmembers have included Rose Byrne, Tate Donovan, Ted Danson, Zeljko Ivanek, Noah Bean, Anastasia Griffith, and Philip Bosco.
The FX series has been declining in the ratings for some time and the third season finale only drew 925,000 viewers. The cable channel said that they couldn’t afford to keep broadcasting the show based on those numbers. They also said they’d be open to some sort of partnership deal if Sony could find another buyer (ala the shared airings of Friday Night Lights between NBC and DirecTV).
DirecTV has come to the show’s rescue but is financing new episodes for exclusive airings, in a similar vein to the deal they made for Passions a couple years back. This means that viewers who don’t have DirecTV won’t be able to see the episodes.

“FX was very proud to have developed one of the best scripted series on television, but, in order to have a future, the show needed DirecTV and we are thrilled they stepped in,” said John Landgraf, President & General Manager, FX Networks. “Sony Pictures Television is a great production partner and we at FX Productions are excited for these next two seasons.”
Under the exclusive deal, DirecTV has ordered 20 new episodes of Damages that will play out over the course of two seasons. They’ll air on DirecTV’s exclusive 101 channel in 2011 and 2012. The satellite provider has also acquired the rights to rerun the first three seasons of Damages.
For those without DirecTV, the episodes will surely be released on DVD at some point.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Damages has been saved? If you don’t already subscribe, would this news make you consider ordering DirecTV?

Love the show!!!So sad to see it on DirectTV…don’t know of anyone who has it so guess I’ll be waiting for it on line. What a shame…it is one of my favs, along with Mad Men.
I love Damages. It’s a superb brain twisting drama. But I wouldn’t switch to DirectTV to watch it. I have Dish TV and love it. I wish they’d offer something like this. Will have to wait for Netflix as well.
I am so sad – I don’t have Direct TV, I’m in a contract with Comcast and I Love Damages, I’m so glad it was not cancelled, but since I can’t watch it – it may as well been cancelled. Very sad.
I am so angry. I love Damages & have watched it from the 1st Episode on. I’ve been waiting for the 4th season to start. Now I’m reading that ONLY if I have direct T.V. I will be able to see it? Totally NOT FAIR at all. The program has alot of viewers so I can’t fathom how come it isn’t being shown on FX. Need input…I’m not getting Direct T.V. just for one show…Still angry!!!
Directv has the worst reputation with the BBB of all television providers. I just got rid of them, I’m sad I wont get to watch damages but they keep raising the rates, cable offered me the same channels for half the price. Its not worth keeping them for one show.
Damages is one of the best shows I have ever watched if not the best. The fact that not enough people watched it and FX had to give it up is nobody’s fault I guess. I do not have DirectTV so I guess I won’t be able to watch the fourth and fifth seasons when they air, but I will wait for Netflix or the DVDs to be available. I will watch my show one way or another. It is such a good show, it is worth waiting for. I am not surprised that not a lot a people watched… Read more »
That stinks. So much for fans who don’t have Direct TV. I guess because we watched the other 3 seasons, we don’t count for much.
This means that we have to wait for Netflix.
Damages is one of the very best series to ever be on television. Full stop.
I do not have direct tv, and most likely will not get it as I use netflix. Which is how I learned about damages to beginning with. I would however purchase the dvd’s of seasons 4 & 5, and however many other season there are.
It is a superb program. Compliments to the writers, actors, camera people, make up people, everyone involved. Good job everyone. It is something to be proud of.
Like deadwood, and the wire and sopranos. Tops!
I am so excited that directv is showing damages. I am a very happy Directv customer they are the best.
Why is DirectTV “the best”? Just curious.
I love Damages so much that I am watching the first 3 seasons again on Direct TV. I can’t wait for season 4 and 5. Thank you Direct TV for saving it! Why more people don’t watch it, I will never understand.
I set up my DVR on Direct TV to tape the so called premier of Damages on Jan 5th and the damn thing was a repeat from last season they were on. What is going on???? That is a shame it can only be aired on Direct TV in the first place. Do not understand that at all. I pay Direct TV $140. 36 per month and have for a very long time and NEVER get a thing offered free like they offer NEW customers. What about us loyal long time subscribers? Why don’t you offer us something free, too… Read more »
The only way to get a better deal from Direct TV is to dump them, wait for them to beg you to stay and then negotiate a better deal with them. As long as you pay your huge bill every month they think you are happy.
love it…love the show……and i have directv so it’s a WINNNNNNNN for us 🙂
This is ********! I love the show & have been a follower since episode 1 season 1. How can they only show it on direct tv. Very very disappointed!
Thrilled that Damages was not cancelled. But I will not be able to see it!!!!! Oh. Come on Direct TV share with the other channels. What a shame that HBO, Showtime someone else did purchase Damages.
