NBC RENEWS ACCLAIMED DAYTIME DRAMA “DAYS OF OUR LIVES” THROUGH 2015-16 SEASON
Days of Our Lives Will Celebrate its 50th Anniversary in November 2015
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – Jan. 22, 2014 – NBC has extended its long-running daytime drama “Days of our Lives” for an additional two years, taking the show through September 2016. ‘Days’ will celebrate its 50th year on television in November 2015, continuing its tradition of passion, intrigue and adventure and cementing its place in television history.
The extension was announced today by Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment.
“‘Days of our Lives’ continues to be a fan favorite for the daytime audience and we are thrilled to keep it going through its 50th season,” said Salke. “‘Days’ has shown year-to-year increases in key female demographics and remains both relevant and fresh creatively due to the hard work of the producers, writers, cast and crew who have worked tirelessly to make ‘Days’ the ratings success it is today.
“Having won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama, “Days of our Lives” continues to deliver on its legacy of quality storytelling,” said Steve Kent, Senior EVP, Programming, Sony Pictures Television. “We appreciate NBC’s continued support and are excited to celebrate the show’s 50thanniversary with our generations of dedicated fans.”
“We are thrilled to continue being a part of the NBC family and to have the support of our incredible network and studio executives who work tirelessly to allow us to continue telling our stories and share the ‘Days’ legacy with our devoted family of fans,” said Ken Corday, executive producer “Days of our Lives.”
“Days of our Lives” currently is delivering its best season in women 18-49 viewers in three years and biggest season in total viewers in four years. Executive producer Ken Corday follows in the tradition of his parents, Betty and Ted Corday, who co-created “Days of our Lives” and helmed the series for many years. “Days” (Monday-Friday, 1-2 p.m. ET) first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later.
In its 48-plus years, “Days of our Lives” has garnered 232 Daytime Emmy nominations and 36 wins, including a recent Emmy win for Outstanding Daytime Drama. The show’s success derives from its consistent commitment to excellence in writing and storytelling — supported by a diverse ensemble of performers — and an uncanny knack for anticipating viewer interests. “Days” is set in the fictitious Midwestern town of Salem. The core families are the Bradys, the Hortons and the DiMeras. The multi-layered storylines involve elements of romance, adventure, mystery, comedy and drama.
“Days of our Lives” is produced by Corday Productions Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. Corday is executive producer with co-executive producers Greg Meng and Lisa De Cazotte. Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell are the head writers.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Days of Our Lives? How does it compare to the other soaps?
I love day’s of our lives. I’ve been watching for over 40 yrs. I think it’s the best sopra there is. I look forward to watching everyday. If I can’t be home I record it. All my sister’s watch it. We call one another and discuss the episodes. You better not take it of the air,it’s my life line.
After everybody is dead there’s nobody else to watch it has to go off the air
I love days of ourlives, please please donot cancel
Please do not cancel Days of Our Lives. I have watched this for years. Since I was teenager. My mom watched it and is how I started watching. I have been hooked on it and look forward to watching it. I love guessing what is going to happen next. Please keep it on.
I hated seeing Bo die. He had just returned. Then Daniel. That was shocking. Nicole never gets a break for very long. I was so hoping she was finally getting her happy time, for a little while anyways.
No please don’t take days off their is nothing on TV now to watch anyway I can’t wait till the next day to find out what happens
I love days I have been watching since I was a child . Who ever the new writes are since sunny and will left got the show back on track EXCEPT for letting bo die. It was a tear jerker I was so excited to she him and Hope back together and Patch being back on it has been no recording for me to fast threw and everyone I talk with says how much they love all the old characters coming back. I love it when it does end when that day comes it will be sadly missed. Thank you… Read more »
I’ve been watching DOOL ever since Hope was born. If I had to be away when it showed, I would tape it on a VCR…call me dated?????
It’s the only soap I’ve watched and it saddens me to know it will be going off 2016, as viewed on TMZ.
Now that Bo is back, can’t the story line continue past 2016?
I have loved Days of our Lives since it started, I really hope it stays on my screen for a long- long time. At one time I only watched NBC soaps, but, alas the kept disappearing
PLEASE keep Days alive.
Thanks
I am 66 years old and I still watch this started when I was 15-16 love it .will watch it as long as I live!!!!!!
I started watching Days almost from the beginning. David and Julie had broken up and David got his rebound girlfriend pregnant and had to marry her! He had also gotten Julie pregnant! His rebound girlfriend ended up shooting and killing David. I also remember when Julie met Doug and their passion was so intense on TV that they had to be involved in “real life” too. Thank you, Days and NBC for the many years airing this show. I have wondered for a while now if Days would outlast me or vice versa. Take care, Sue Frye
I have been watching Days of our Lives since 1969. It currently airs on CW Las Vegas but I believe it might have been cancelled from that station and since it no longer is shown on Channel 3 in Las Vegas. where will I be able to catch the episodes?
days of our lives excels in excellence and spellbinding capacity. I am completely enthralled by the show and love the cast. please do not take this show off after 2016. think Allison Sweeney should be replaced by look alike yaeger. cannot afford to lose the character. she is not the only fish in the sea.
It is a tragedy that you are flaunting homosexuality . You are laughing at family values and Judeo- Christian beliefs from the Bible. God loves homosexuals, but the life style they live is an abomination to him and is sin in His eyes. We reap what we sow, and your disobedience will eventually be your downfall.
Hope you’re right Karen~
I have been watching days for 43 years, it always surprises, makes me laugh, cry, cheer, boo etc. I love that so many members of the cast have been on for years, the characters feel like friends or family.Happy that we will get a 50th Anniversary year and beyond.
Yahooooooo! It’s been my favorite since it started! I just wish Bo would come back.
I do too! Maybe they can entice Peter Reckell back now that they know they will be airing through 2016.
