It seems that stakes and network executives can take a vampire down. NBC has cancelled the Dracula TV show after one season of 10 episodes.
NBC’s Dracula is a retelling of the classic Bram Stoker story. In London, Dracula (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is posing as an American entrepreneur while he seeks revenge on those who cursed him. He doesn’t count on falling in love with a woman (Jessica De Gouw) who looks just like his deceased wife. Others in the cast include Thomas Kretschmann, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Victoria Smurfit, Katie McGrath, and Nonso Anozie.
The show’s debut did respecatably for a Friday night show but dropped much lower in subsequent weeks. The first season averaged a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.25 million total viewers.
Hannibal and Dracula are both produced under a unique deal that costs the network much less than other original drama series. Hannibal’s license fee is set to go down for season three so the network ultimately decided to renew that show and cancel Dracula.
It seems like Dracula’s studios could still potentially produce a second season for another outlet but there hasn’t been any news of that thus far.
What do you think? Do you think Dracula should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you follow the series to another channel or pay to see a second season?
I’m very upset that NBC is going to cancel this show? I’m a stay at home mom and don’t watch tv unless it’s a show I’m interested in. I LOVED the show Dracula, it was different and catching. Better than some of the other shows they air! That are pointless and immature! I’m gonna be writing another letter or commenting to the director, because this is one of my top 5 favorite shows!
It does not pay to get interested in programs on NBC because they are known for leaving you hanging in programming. As soon as U get interested in the program NBC will certainly cancel that program, it never fails. I have noticed that the CW channel does the same thing as NBC. Bring back Dracula (NBC), The Carrie Diaries and Star Crossed (CW). These are understandable, nice, & clean shows. Please, Please, Please bring them back!
I am so bummed that they cancelled the show. I have been waiting for it to come back on this summer 2014. I really enjoyed it. Please bring it back!
So disappointed they cancelled this great show!
I knew that NBC would cancel Dracula. When I heard that NBC had picked it up I worried that they would have no idea how to handle the high caliber, great production that Dracula is.

This show should be given another season. The show has merit and deserves another season to prove its worth. That being said, when have the big executives made a good decision based on what the masses want.
Nick
bring him back
I love the show
I am so sick of so called reality shows and they keep adding them on ! But cancel a show like Dracula? I don’t get it. I found Dracula a very interesting show, and it certainly was much higher in quality in every way compared to many other shows aired still showing.
Don’t canceled my favorite show..
I love the show please don’t canceled the show…
I’m with you on that
it so not fair to continue with junk and canceling the show we loved and want to see more of it.. NBC should reconsider its decision.. we all loved dracula n want second season 🙁
They always cancel decent shows and leave the junk on! Don’t cancel Dracula!
Why do the networks always debut a show and just when I get real interested in it gets cancelled . Dracula on NBC and also Starcrossed on th CW
My BAD, NBC.
It figures that as soon as I get wrapped up into a show it gets cancelled. And this isn’t the only show on ABC either. Siberia is another one. There are NO interesting shows to watch during the summer, and then WAMM#@!$%&* y’all cancel another good show, and yes, without giving it a chance to prove itself worthy to the viewers. I guess my husband will be happy to know that I will stop watching TV with the exception of The Young and The Restless. At least I can depend on that for the time being!!
