Last summer, CBS found ratings success with new series Under the Dome. This summer, they introduced Extant, a sci-fi series starring Halle Berry. Has it been a hit as well? Will the series be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled instead?
On Extant, astronaut Molly Woods (Berry) returns to Earth after a year-long solo mission in outer space. Her reunion with her family is thrown into turmoil when it’s learned that she’s pregnant. Others in the cast include Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer, and Michael O’Neill.
Debuting on July 9th, the series got off to a decent start and attracted a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.58 million viewers. In week two, the ratings saw a moderate decline which is not unexpected for a new series. Unfortunately, the numbers took a big dip in week three.

The ratings seem to have now leveled off and the show consistently draws a 1.0 rating in the demo with under six million viewers. Those are hardly impressive numbers for an expensive show with a movie star as the lead.
Last year’s Under the Dome was profitable for CBS even before the series aired, thanks to a deal with Amazon and others. CBS has a streaming deal with Amazon for Extant but it’s unclear if that will be enough to get this particular show a second season renewal.
Series creator Mickey Fisher says that he has big plans for season two but has assured fans of a satisfying finale if the show is cancelled. He believes the series has a 50/50 chance.

It’s the only show worth watching on Wednesday night! Thank you for a quality show with top-drawer cast, interesting premise, and intriquing plot twists. AND without resorting to nudity, obscenity, and close-up focus on gore. If ratings have dipped, it may be in part to erratic scheduling. Some nights it broadcast at 9pm, last night it aired at 10pm, and once it aired 2 shows in a row at 9pm followed by another episode at 10pm. Hard enough to get a reliable viewership during the summer vacation months, so why make it difficult to find?
Keep! Lots of possibilities and it usually takes a season for most shows to really find their feet. Extant would do well given that chance I think. Also, word is just getting out about the show, it needs more time and exposure. Too soon to cancel with any confidence.
I love Halle Berry. I wish they could have given her a better show.
I am turned off on the show now. I still watch it, but not enjoying it anymore.

seldom sit down together. That’s until “Extant”,
It has kept us so involved we can’t wait until
the next episode. This show has a mixture of
suspense and futuristic elements. The show
has became so much a part of our weekly lifes.
This show needs to be renewed for another

Is Extant the best show on the networks? No, but it is far better than any of that reality show drool that is show. I enjoy watching it, even if there are problems with the show. Perhaps it would be better to wrap this up as a one season show, otherwise it could degrade into a baseless show like what happened to season 2 of Under the Dome or Revolution.
I agree, I wish this could be just a “mini-series” like Under the Dome was SUPPOSED to be. Wrap up the whole storyline in one “season” and be done with it. I like Halle and think she’s a great actress, but this whole story is hokey. As others have said, it’s not as good as I hoped it would be, and I’m ready enough for it be over. If it gets cancelled, I will only regret it if they don’t give us some resolution. I hate it when we get a cliffhanger and no more.
I have enjoyed this show all summer! There are so many avenues the plots could venture into and I would love to see more. I love the roller coaster ride the writers provide.
I LOVE THIS SHOW! I think it has so many twists & turns which keeps me watching week after week!! Not to mention the Executive Producer/Creater is from my town……
This show started out great and now the episodes seem to be mangled. Last night was unbelievably boring. Not sure what’s going on with this but I’m losing interest.

The show is good so far but I can see it being great! Feels like its building up to be a very cool show. Leave it on.
If CBS cancel Extant. , I would wish it to picked up by a HBO, Showtime or Starz.
I will admit the show started out fairly slow, but it has proven to be an outstanding show! Halle Berry has done a wonderful job portraying Molly Woods. I am hoping this will continue for another season.

We got thru 2 episodes and then (since they were all taped) zapped the rest. Not as good as we thought it would be.
