The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

I would so definitely watch The Family if another network picked it up. I was so upset when this show was cancelled. I love this show.
I love this show and don’t know why they would cancel it. I also don’t understand why they didn’t let it come to a decent end. Very disappointed.

Very disappointed that it’s cancelled. Way the first season ended opened up a whole new storyline for a second season.
I enjoyed the show (60-65) and if reality shows can stay on the TV along with mindless shows like Two Broke Girls, Odd Couple, etc. then why not let this show continue on ABC. Please bring The Family back.

I think this is one of the best dramas on TV……I don’t usually watch the dramas on regular chanels, I prefer HBO< SHO< FX but this show is really good, gets better each week. So sorry to hear it is being taken off. 🙁
Ya know, if a station wants to cancel a show, that is certainly their right, no matter how stupid of a decision it might be. HOWEVER…why would you not allow the writers to FINISH the show!!! Why would they not be allowed one more episode to END it. It is just a common courtesy you should give to viewers!!!

The Family is an incredibly written show. It is well acted and the idea of it now being over without a satisfying ending is awful, like when Southland abruptly ended. Poor choice here too. Now that we’ve seen the real Adam we NEED more. Didn’t see this coming. Such a great show. Again please continue.

I say give it another season. Too many loose ends. I want to know what happens to all these people.
I am VERY disappointed that the show has been cancelled. It has a great story line and for the cliffhanger to be as unexpected as it was, it would be very foolish to just end it all like that. There is so much more for us to see and so many questions left unanswered!! Such as what exactly did Willa do to Bridey to get rid of her?? And how are Jane and Adam connected?? What? I am devastated. This show brought me back to network tv! I hosted The Family watching parties at my house. This show offered suspense, mystery, and drama at its finest. Please ABC reconsider. This show was going places!
