Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

I thoroughly enjoyed the intensity of the show. The story line of The Family captivated my attention along with my 24 yr old daughter. We are extremely disappointed that the show has been cxd. We are even more disappointed that we will not see the finale. What is going on with ABC? You just usurped Michael Strahan from Kelly to improve ratings. That leaves Kelly’s show vulnerable to failed ratings. They had a great chemistry. You will have a difficult time finding a replacement for him. Very disappointed to find out the 5/15 episode was the series finale. I love Hanks character and is currently the only show I was following the past 2 months. I missed the first 6 weeks so had to watch them On Demand, then recorded them and watched on my DVR. If this truly is the finale, the ending was horrible and just leaves the viewers hanging. Please bring back a season 2.
My wife and I loved this show. We just found out about it a month ago and in our opinion is the best show on ABC in its category. We were unable to watch the episodes live at its normal air time because of the late show time on Sunday and having work early the next day but streamed it online religiously the second we got through the door after work. We are both very disappointed to hear that it was cancelled and that we have been bullied out of a season 2. There are so many boring, dull shows… Read more »
Not the proper closure for a series finale. Too bad it was cancelled. It was a good show. Every episode brought a new twist. Better than a lot of other programming.
Disappointed it’s been cancelled! The series kept getting better, and so many twists…..darn.! I sure would like to know how things turn out, even if for only one more season.
Sorry to see it go…….considering it was canceled they should have given us a more exciting closure. Instead they left us hanging as though it was going to be back on the air for another season.
