Peter Vaughan, prolific actor and Game of Thrones star, has passed away at the age of 93, Deadline reports.
Vaughan played Maester Aemon, the head of the Night Watch, on the popular HBO series for five seasons.
Born in 1923, the British thespian got his start on the stage before he began appearing on TV series in the 1950s. In addition to shows like Deadline Midnight, A Chance of Thunder, and Coronation Street, Vaughan frequently starred on the stage and in films like the 1959 adaptation of The 39 Steps and 1964’s Smokescreen.
For the next 50 years, Vaughan would go on to star in more than 200 various TV shows and films, including the ’70s series Porridge, The Doombolt Chase, and Citizen Smith. More recently, Vaughan appeared in the BBC series Lark Rise to Candleford as Rev. Ellison. His last role was as Maester Aemon on Game of Thrones.
