A couple weeks ago, we reported that the ratings for the new Hawaii Five-0 were not as good as the network would like you to believe. It may have started off as the season’s most popular new show but that’s not no longer the case.
Hawaii Five-0 got off to a strong start with a 3.9 in the 18-49 demographic and 14.2 million total viewers. In week two, they dropped 8% (not bad) and in week three they fell another 3% (still not bad).
For the fourth episode, the ratings dropped an alarming 11% to a 3.1 rating and 10.7 million viewers. We heard from several readers that all shows were down that night. Not so. ABC’s Castle was actually up by 4%. Still, if Hawaii Five-0’s steep decline was indeed an anomaly than you’d expect the numbers to bounce back the following week.
They didn’t. The numbers fell another 6.5% to a 2.9 in the demo and 10.94 million viewers. This week, they fell yet again — for the fifth week in a row — to a 2.8 rating and 10.23 million viewers. It’s only a 3.5% drop but, for the first time, Hawaii Five-0 was beaten by Castle. The ABC show’s its biggest competitor in the timeslot while NBC’s Chase is always a distant third. This week, Castle brought in a 2.9 rating and 11.32 million.
Hawaii Five-0 is still not in immediate danger of being cancelled. As expected, the network recently gave it a full season and ordered nine more episodes. The lower the ratings fall however, the less likely it is to be renewed for a second season. One has to wonder when the ratings will finally stop falling or maybe even start going back up.
What do you think? How low will the ratings fall? Are you still watching?

H50 is great! Alex O’Loughlin is fantastic as McGarrett. The rest of the cast is awesome, too. Give it some time and keep tuning in.
Why is the vampire doctor cop getting such a bad wrap?
Sometimes I wonder if making the announcement that a show has been given a full season causes some viewers to stop watching. They figure, “Okay, it’s safe [for this year]. I’ll DVR it or download the eps for viewing later and I’ll watch something else tonight.” People are savy about ratings including the families Nielson picks. They know if they like a show they have to have it on as it airs in order for it to count with Nielson and thus with the Network and advertisers. (One more reason the system needs to be changed/updated.) As soon as a… Read more »
i love this show my whole family loves it and i dont watch it because its a remake , i watch it because i like it
I liked the original series better because the actors were great. The present cast do not make the show the same, except for the two Hawaiian actors. One thing that is great about the new series is the High Definition Color of Hawaii.
Hawaii Five-0 to me is one of the better new shows on the air this year. Im glad they are giving it the chance to grow and didnt say. “Well the ratings have dropped two weeks in a row, let’s cancel it!” This time of year is so hard to look at tv shows on Sunday and Monday night’s because there are so many things going against regular programming. You have Sunday night football going against shows on Sundays. And even though Monday night Football is on cable it still takes the viewers you would normally have for shows like… Read more »
I am still watching, I like the shots of the Island, the story lines and the characters. The show is action packed and enjoyable! Yeh its a remake but I still like it better than the first series.
Love it!
I gave it a chance for two weeks…although to be fair I recorded it…but it didn’t keep my interest. I just don’t think they are very consistant with what kinda of show it wants to be. I can’t seem to get invested in the leads. All in all it a meh show to me. I really am not at all suprised by the ratings. Its no Castle that’s for sure. Castle just seems to get better and better and I am thrilled to see them consistantly up in the ratings. They deserve it.
still dont get the idea of making a remake, just kindof kills the oringal show which was amazing btw, and good luck getting ratings when your on the same time as castle, and if past years have shown us, castle’s ratings will only get higher, caslte always seems to start off slow then get really high, last year they beat out csi(something) and that was big and got beat by castle!!
I love the show. It is the first “remake” of any show that is worth the watch. People just don’t appreciate good shows anymore. It seems like the trashier something is the better they like it. Not me, give me the classics, remade or in their originality!!
I don’t know how low. Maybe it was a better idea on paper remaking the show who knows? I’m still watching the show. It’s decent not excellent.
Keep them coming. Love this show
I remember Hawaii Five-O from when I was a kid. Specifically, I remember groaning and changing the channel when I saw the intro.
I wonder how many people have the same impression of it? I really cannot be bothered to check out a remake of a show I didn’t like in the first place.
Castle, on the other hand, is a great show.
It’s not “If I Don’t Watch This My Week is Ruined” Television, but it’s the best thing on Monday nights in its time slot. Still, it’s no Burn Notice, and I wouldn’t think twice if it were cancelled. I guess it’s a passable restaurant in a convenient location 🙂
