After 254 episodes and eight seasons, this evening marks the end of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne TV series on TBS.
In April 2011, the cable channel announced that they were ending the venerable sitcom, in part to make way for Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse. At that time, we understood the final episode total for House of Payne to be 220 installments.
In late September 2011, Perry posted on his Facebook page that TBS had ordered even more episodes. In December, the cast and crew had a wrap party that celebrated the completion of 254 episodes. We now know that was the last.
The series finale of House of Payne is called “All’s Well” and it caps off a very successful run. In fact, it’s the longest-running sitcom with a predominently African-American cast — surpassing The Cosby Show (201 episodes), Family Matters (215 installments), and The Jeffersons (253 episodes).
Still, it can be hard to say goodbye, even after a very long run. What do you think? Are you sorry to see House of Payne go? Should TBS have ended it? What will you miss?
You got rid of your best show. I can and will do without Meet the Browns and For Better or Worse. Perhaps you should have checked with your viewers before making that dreadful decision. Clearly, TBS didn’t think about your loyal viewers. But, you’ve already made it big now, so I doubt your viewers opinions matter.
We all must work together to bring it back!!!! Are you with me!!!! 🙂
For better or worse is not good. I don’t want house of Payne to go away. Don’t cancel
I didn’t like how the show ended. It doesn’t feel complete. There is more to the stories. I would like the show back on for another season with more of a wrap up. Bring the show back on!
If at all possible please keep this show going. I love watching Curtis slam the door in others faces and just the everyday family life and challenges the Payne’s go through. Miss Ella once gave an inspirational speach to the family about what Christmas is all about and to not take Christ out of Christmas. It was a heart felt soul touching speach she made to her family to set the record straight, and it gave me chills. When she was finished giving her speach to the family there was silence, not only on the set but in my own… Read more »
Are you serious. For better or worst is the WORST. Keep House of Payne!
I think choosing for better or worse over house of payne was ust wrong i can’t even get into it.
[…] TV show dates: June 21, 2006 – August 10, 2012 Series status: Cancelled/ended […]
I will miss the House of Payne… the way it ended with Miranda leaving Calvin leaves us with unanwered questions. I know in real life things happen like this, but I would like to think that the marriage issues would get resolved. They are young and Miranda and Calvin both had expectations of what marriage would be like… they have weathered a lot of storms, but the financial one seems to be hurdle that they can’t get over. Hopefully, Tyler will tie up the loose ends with a TV movie. I love the cast and the story lines and pray… Read more »
im mad that its ending it is my favorite show ever. For better or worse is a lame show and doesnt hold anything to house of payne this really is making me mad. I hope all in all that they will realize what their doing is wrong .
Keep House of Payne and Meet the browns. I love those shows makes my Fridays
If the cast is willing and it’s economically feasible; lets bring it back. The ending of Calvin and Miranda was anticipated; however, the show itself was very entertaining and I’d like to see it revived if at all possible.
I don’t want to see the tyler perry house of payne to go either i love that show it’s my show, so if you let it go, i will be very sad i love everyone that’s in there so please find away to bring it back and nobody don’t like for better or worse no one let that show let go please
