Christopher Chance and company have been struggling in the ratings this season and FOX isn’t exactly helping them out. On Wednesday, the pair of scheduled Human Target episodes were pre-empted by President Obama’s speech from Tucson. Those episodes have been rescheduled for tonight, an evening when viewership is much lower and many fans of the show will probably miss them.
Now, FOX has decided to expand the Wednesday, January 26th edition of American Idol to two hours. As a result, the previously scheduled episode of Human Target will be bumped to Monday, January 31st. It’ll precede the final Lie to Me of the season (and possibly the series). The network hasn’t announced it yet but, if the two-hour Idol on the 26th is a success, FOX could certainly decide to expand the next couple episodes which would displace the last two episodes of Human Target’s season. While the series was once going to get a ratings boost from an Idol lead-in, it’s now getting shuffled around instead.
It would seem that FOX has all but given up on the series. At this point, it’s hard to blame them. The ratings certainly don’t warrant a third round of episodes. Season one averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.6 million viewers and it was almost cancelled with those numbers. Thus far, season two has averaged just a pitiful 1.6 rating and 6.04 million total viewers. Human Target is currently the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
It seems that Human Target is already destined to be cancelled and these latest schedule changes will be the final blow.
What do you think? Will Human Target be renewed for season three or cancelled? What would you suggest doing to increase the ratings?

My problem with Human Target was that it never followed through with the premise of the series. The idea was that Chance disguised himself as someone who was a target to be killed. The stories would revolve around him navigating his way through the lives of his clients. This show did none of that, and what I got was an action show. Meh.
Finally, FOX has a show worth watching and they want to cancel? Idiots! No wonder I never watch FOX. Hopefully another network will pick up Human Target, promote it and put in a regular time slot and laugh all the way to the bank. The show is well written with a great cast. Each episode is fresh and exciting – I just love it. My vote is keep Human Target on the air and great rid of those dumb reality shows.
Please put Human Target on good nite and leave it alone so we can find it. It is one of the best shows on t.v.
Human Target is my new favorite show. It figures that they are thinking of cancelling it. I was so bummed when President Obama’s speech preempted it. The characters are funny, the story lines are exciting and the interaction between the characters is what keeps me coming back. Please don’t cancel it. Just find a good night for it and keep it there. Also more advertising might help.
Has Fox bumped their heads???? Human Target is one of the most well written series out there not to mention funny and suspenseful! It would be a huge mistake to cancel this show especially for a declining American Idol!
We love this show and would like to see it continued. The cast has won me over. I would put it up at the same level of “24”.
I’m a huge fan of Human Target. Wonder if FOX ever thought of how many people DVR the show to watch later? Like other decent series, it will probably be dropped instead of giving it a chance in a steady time slot. If they want to get rid of something, get rid of American Idol and bring us more like HT.
I love this show and only watch Idol through the preleminary auditions but would watch Human Target instead no matter which night it was on.
I love Human Target. the reason it is having problems is that Fox keeps changing its time and no one can find it. forget Idle – It is getting boring and old. Bring Human Target back for more episodes and another season!!!!
I hate American Idol and LOVE HUMAN TARGET. It is well written and very enjoyable! I vote to keep it going!
I agree. I have NEVER watched a full show of American Idol and never will.
Human Target although farfetched sometimes, is a better overall show.
Human Target is one of my favorite shows. My husband and I never miss it. I hope Fox will give it more time and possibly promote it more to give it a chance. The cast is wonderful and the storylines either have you laughing or on the edge of your seat. It’s nice to have a show that is exciting and interesting and some of the action scenes are over the top! We absolutely love it. I also think Mark Valley is a wonderful actor. I refuse to watch another stupid reality show. Please give this a chance. Thanks for… Read more »
Fox should move Human Target to FX, where it’s numbers could only improve. I think every network that’s presently spreading its development process across all its platforms (web, basic cable, broadcast) is learning that shows should be free to cross platforms as the numbers dictate. Look at NBC with the Law & Order franchise; would we have gotten three more seasons of L+O Criminal Intent if it had not bumped down to USA Network? Would NBC have gotten the paid-for summer filler that Criminal Intent has become for them, with pretested numbers and a built-in audience, if they had simply… Read more »
Fox and the public are missing out on an exceptional series, should they decide to cancel Human Target. The action, the plots, and the actors are very good. Sad. Give Human Target a solid night, and it will draw viewers.
honestly??? Human Target is one of the most well-written shows out there right now; the show is orignal, the characters are interesting & the actors can deliver a great line. haven’t we had enough idols to last us a while? the show is becoming redundant, as are all the reality shows just like it. what a shame that the networks can’t get a good thing going.
Right on!
FOX has fallen flat since 24 got cancelled. They are now hoping America Idol will save them. That show will flop because of no returning judges. The network FOX is doomed!
