The original Ironside lasted for eight seasons on NBC but the remake only lasted three episodes. The peacock network has cancelled the Blair Underwood drama and will pull it after next week. It’s unclear what will become of the low-rated show’s unaired episodes.
For the immediate future, NBC will fill the Wednesdays at 10pm timeslot with new editions of Dateline and then, holiday specials.
On January 8th, Chicago PD will premiere. It’s the previously mentioned spin-off of Chicago Fire which currently airs on Tuesdays at 10pm.
Ironside follows a smart and no-nonsense NYPD detective (Blair Underwood) who’s been confined to a wheelchair for the past two years. The rest of the police drama’s cast includes Pablo Schreiber, Spencer Grammer, Neal Bledsoe, Kenneth Choi, and Brent Sexton.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that the series has been cancelled?
NBC, I am very upset that Ironside was cancelled! I really loved the show and was making sure that I was home every Wednesday! It had all of the components for being successful ! The right actors, the right drama, suspense, and it came on at the right time! Wednesdays needed to be revived! Whoever made that decision will regret it! This was a great show and deserved to finish the season out because it takes people a while to catch on to new shows, and new line ups!
I was very sorry to know it was cancelled, I have enjoyed each show that I’ve seen and wished, we had been able to see a full season, before it stopped.
NBC sucks! My husband is paraplegic and we really enjoyed watching a decent drama.
I was disappointed at the little bit of one show I saw but I wanted to watch an entire show from beginning to end. One thing I was sad about was the location of the show in New York. I loved the old show being in SFO. The personality of that city w a s such an important part of the old show and frankly I was looking forward to a west coast cop show. Oh well. I missed my chance. Three shows does not seem like a fair trial to me either.
I feel bad for the people that liked the show that it was only given 3 episodes, but I am not sorry to see it go. I thought this would be a show that I would really like, and watched the first episode wanting to find a reason to like the show but didn’t. Unfortunately, one episode was enough for me. The main character was too unlikeable, nothing compelling about the supporting characters, and the story wasn’t great (shoot the hostage?) in my opinion. I do hope NBC does show the remaining episodes for those who enjoyed the first 3.
I mean, really? NBC?…really? How do you cancel a show after 3 episodes? Who makes these decisions? I can only hope the same people that cancelled ‘Ironside’ are not the ones that get to decide the fate of any other shows. Watch out ‘Grimm’, ‘The Blacklist’ and ‘Revolution’!!!
I am very sorry to hear Ironside is being cancelled. It seems every time a very good show is on tv it is taken off the air. Three episodes is not enough for people to get into it. I wasn’t going to watch it because I thought Ironside was about the old Ironside, for which nobody could replace Perry Mason, but the show is not about a lawyer. I think Blair Underwood is excellent in his role and the story line and the other actors are great. I do hope another network will give this show another chance
I liked this show…the only other one I like this season is Blacklist. Network offerings are poor. Too many reality and talent shows. Very limited drama. I agree – thank God for Netflix.
I was just beginning to enjoy this version of Ironside… am disappointed it was cancelled so quickly only 3 shows in network doesn’t have much faith and then to fill the slots with news programs is even more sad! Netflix here I come!
I think it was shaping up to be a great series. Blair Underwood is a brilliant actor. Was looking forward to watching him in a series again. I do hope anotger network picks it up.
Blair Underwood is an excellent actor and was surrounded by a pretty good cast. I don’t believe the network gave him a fair chance. Most people will watch due to word of mouth and I heard people saying great things about the show. This generation is not really familiar with the original Ironside so they can’t really compare the two. The show also gave a voice to the handicapped. I hope another network picks it up. It’s worth the risk.
Big mistake cancelling a great show. Three episode s is not enough. People are still checking out the new line ups.
Wish they would have finished the season. They filmed them. What a waste of time, film, and money. I enjoyed the show. Why couldn’t they try a different time slot?
I am sorry I liked it and I thought it had potential. Nice boost for disabled as a bonus. also something rather special about Kenneth Choi. Hope to see more of him at any rate.
I think they should have at least given it a full season before cancelling. I think it was a pretty good show!! I hope they at least play the rest of the episodes or finish up the season on dvd or something.
