On the heels of reversing its decision to renew Z: The Beginning of Everything for a second season, Amazon has cancelled The Last Tycoon TV show, after only one season. The drama series — inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s unfinished novel of the same name — comes from writer and director Billy Ray.
Streaming on the Amazon Prime Video paid subscription platform, The Last Tycoon stars Matt Bomer, Kelsey Grammer, Lily Collins, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dominique McElligott, Enzo Cilenti, Mark O’Brien, Jessica De Gouw, Koen De Bouw, Jennifer Beals, Saul Rubinek, and Eion Bailey. The period drama centers on “Hollywood’s Golden Boy” Monroe Stahr (Bomer). The young producer struggles with studio boss Pat Brady (Grammer), over the path they should take. The two clash, when the Nazi regime informs them that they will have to abide by Hitler’s standards, if they want to release their films in Germany.

Terrible, terrible decision to cancel this show. It was really a great one. Great cast and story. What the f is wrong with Amazon???
This is a good show. Well acted, the set and characters are fantastic. I just felt like they didn’t give it enough time – I for one, would love to see what’s in store next for our favorite characters. Maybe not Kathleen – think they just couldn’t figure out what to do with her and just said “f-it” we’ll just start something new?
It was a smart period peace with really great acting. So much crap gets renewed , this show had a lot of room to get even better.
Boo! Hiss! Why would Amazon cancel such a promising series? Someone should be called on the carpet for this harrowing decision. What a joke — and the joke is on us. Apparently, brilliant acting and intellectually perceptive writing carry little weight in Amazon’s Boardroom. Sad.
Disappointed! After watching the preview, I couldn’t wait to see the rest of Season 1. I loved the first season and was looking forward to Season 2. I guess I wasted time on this one. I, too, will wait for several seasons before I invest time in another Amazon original show.
Very disappointing!!! After investing in the first season, loved the show ! The next time their show looks interesting, I will wait for a few seasons to air before starting to watch future shows!!
Very sad to hear this news. Watched all of the new episodes of The Last Tycoon the day they came to Amazon. Love this show, the actors, sets, costumes, music, just everything. Very disappointed.
I don’t know how Amazon expects to compete with Netflix if they don’t invest in R&D. It takes time for things to catch on.
Such a BAD decision! It was a WONDERFUL story…and I want to know if Monroe lived! Amazon, you are such fools with that incredible cast and great story…shame on you for leaving us hanging!
Upset I thought it was a great show
After Amazon has cancelled 2 top notch series obviously because of cost I will have to think long and hard about committing to any series they stream. I won’t even believe them when they promise a second season. My subscrption expires in December, and I will decide if the free shipping is worth the cost. Netflix sticks to there promises.
Very disappointed. The actors were terrific and the storyline entertaining and engaging. I was looking forward to Season 2.

The Last Tycoon was wonderful with terrific acting and a great storyline. I am so disappointed in Amazon for cancelling a terrific show so it can be replaced with reality tv or comedies that are not funny or violent shows that no one should watch. Very sad☹️
We have watched every episode of The Last Tycoon and enjoyed it very much. We watched 4 episodes of Z and stopped watching. Very disappointed in Amazon’s decision.
