On the heels of reversing its decision to renew Z: The Beginning of Everything for a second season, Amazon has cancelled The Last Tycoon TV show, after only one season. The drama series — inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s unfinished novel of the same name — comes from writer and director Billy Ray.
Streaming on the Amazon Prime Video paid subscription platform, The Last Tycoon stars Matt Bomer, Kelsey Grammer, Lily Collins, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dominique McElligott, Enzo Cilenti, Mark O’Brien, Jessica De Gouw, Koen De Bouw, Jennifer Beals, Saul Rubinek, and Eion Bailey. The period drama centers on “Hollywood’s Golden Boy” Monroe Stahr (Bomer). The young producer struggles with studio boss Pat Brady (Grammer), over the path they should take. The two clash, when the Nazi regime informs them that they will have to abide by Hitler’s standards, if they want to release their films in Germany.
Deadline has confirmed The Last Tycoon TV series cancellation.
What do you think? Have you watched the first season of The Last Tycoon TV show? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for season two on Amazon? Sound off, in the comments.
Of course they cancelled it. There where no super heros and no explosions every 3 or 4 minutes. All it had going for it was dialogue, great sets, writers, a story line. Appears that is not enough. HBO or Netflix has nothing to worry about.
We just completed the first season. I cant say this about many productions, but I really like all the actors in this series; the characters are compelling and story line intense. Very well done! But just as the story line in the series, the good fails and is written off. So it goes with this production. I hope the executives change their mind. The pablum from the entertainment system in the USA is almost unbearable. I hope Amazon and Netflix continue to produce quality material. The tick isn’t it however….
Loved this show! Sad it is cancelled! Was looking forward to season 2! Great cast, great writing and beautiful sets.
I thoroughly loved the show because of the great acting and back stories. There are not many shows like for that time period setting. The golden age of Hollywood. Well done I wish there were more episodes.
We so thoroughly enjoyed this show that we watched most of it in only a few sittings! Great cast and interaction. The set and costumes were special. Hopefully Amazon will reconsider this wonderful ensemble for another run!
I can’t believe they cancelled it. Great show. I would definitely watch more seasons of this
Pissed about the cancellation. Enjoyed it thoroughly and had only just begun to recommend it to others. Considering our current presidential and Congressional crisis, the story had a chance to have a positive affect on what’s happening now in this country.
Please, unkill it.
I have enjoyed this show. It is very interesting due to time frame and I feel the acting is very good!!’
I am very disappointed there will it be a second season!
I am so displeased with the cancellation of the Last Tycoon! I was almost in tears, this show was well produced and has an excellent cast! PLEASE reconsider or allow either Netflix or Hulu to pick it up!!!
We are so sad after reading that The Last Tycoon Season 2 has been canceled. It was a well done show: great acting, beautiful sets and costuming , and interesting script.
I just finished seeing the series on Amazon Prime and I cannot understand why a series of such excellence will not have a series 2. It was of HBO standard in every way, Perhaps HBO or Netflix can pick it up as a lot of viewers are very disappointed.
There are not many shows on today like The Last Tycoon. With America’s obsession of reality TV, which is nothing but trash entertainment, it was nice to be able to watch such a well produced classy show. Amazon is making a mistake by canceling Season 2.
I wish there was going to be a season 2. It was one of my favorite shows. I was looking forward to a new season.
This seeme to be a Reoccouring TV Streaming Companies especially Amazon. To get off to a great start, realing in the Audiences with a finely produced effort only to cancel at the end of the first season. Whats going to happen when viewers tire of the tease and move on to other forms of entertainment? Hopefully another Comglomarant will pick this up, or maybe Amazon will Geraldze the errors of their and cut the schlock remaining intact and actually deciedes to sitck with some of their shows of quality like this.
Hoping Amazon or some other company picks this up!
