On the heels of reversing its decision to renew Z: The Beginning of Everything for a second season, Amazon has cancelled The Last Tycoon TV show, after only one season. The drama series — inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s unfinished novel of the same name — comes from writer and director Billy Ray.
Streaming on the Amazon Prime Video paid subscription platform, The Last Tycoon stars Matt Bomer, Kelsey Grammer, Lily Collins, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dominique McElligott, Enzo Cilenti, Mark O’Brien, Jessica De Gouw, Koen De Bouw, Jennifer Beals, Saul Rubinek, and Eion Bailey. The period drama centers on “Hollywood’s Golden Boy” Monroe Stahr (Bomer). The young producer struggles with studio boss Pat Brady (Grammer), over the path they should take. The two clash, when the Nazi regime informs them that they will have to abide by Hitler’s standards, if they want to release their films in Germany.
Deadline has confirmed The Last Tycoon TV series cancellation.

Disappointed. Husband and I had just discovered and really gotten into this series and were literally just discussing how good the cast and the plot were, now that we’re halfway into the series. Why release this in the summer when no one has time for TV? It’s goes much better with the fall. Shane they decided to cancel; now the news is out, no one will want to invest the time in it. Love the cast, they were getting better character development opportunities as they got into the season.
BOTH shows last tycoon and beginning of everything were wonderful. Please continue.

this was a great show in many ways, and actually became my favorite. the only show I’ve watched start to finish as quickly as I could in a very long time. very DISSAPOINTING to see in cancelled

I just finished watching season one and loved it. What a disappointment to find out there will not be a season 2!
I just finished watching the first season. I enjoyed it and am disappointed it has been canceled. The show was interesting in its historical content about the film industry’s beginnings along with its other historical references. Bomer and Grammer made a great team bringing the story together on the screen. I hope the decision to cancel the show will be reconsidered and all parties will be willing to come back together for more seasons.

WHAT a MISTAKE? The Last Tycoon is far more entertaining, compelling and pleasuarble AND ON SO MANY LEVELS it simply boggles the mind that Amazon would not renew it for a second season! Brady canceled “The Enemy Within”, setting the stage for a future of conflict and intrigue and hopefully, turnaround. Now, in a bit of “Art imitating Life” the clearly clueless making such decisions for Amazon, “Don’t know Story” as Monroe would say, and are stiffing the audience the show has built as well as the one that will surely find the series in due course in the future!… Read more »
Why did they cancel this show? It was great!! They did a terrible job promoting it. I watched the first episode and kept watching back for it, until I got tired of checking for months. Then when it finally came out, they didn’t announce it in any way I could see and as a prime subscriber, they must have known I watched it. So it’s very poor use of technology in my opinion.
This is a terrible decision
