Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.
What do you think? Should Lie to Me have been renewed for season four?

Oh, yes, it should definitely bee continued. I just loved it, as it was so different to all the other crime series. I would just LOVE to watch a fourth or even fifth episode. PLEASE… 🙂
Honestly, Lie To Me was one of the best shows I have watched. It kept me on edge and I was learning to spot micro-expressions myself. Personally, Season 3 seemed a bit rushed so no wonder why it didn’t get many ratings. They could have at least come up with a better ending.
the show should continue. it’s awesome!!
I don’t understand how this series didn’t get enough viewers. This is probably one of the best shows in this genre that I’ve ever watched.
The people at Fox are idiots. Lie to me is a really good show. So good that the people over in Hong Kong’s TVB Stations has already made a replica version of it.
They are idiots for canceling it, it is obviously a great series and didn’t get the right advertising and broadcasting. If people knew about the series their ratings would have been through the roof! They would have also made big bucks.
I can only say I stumbled upon it after getting netflix and I have been glued to lie to me for under two weeks watched my last ep tonight had no sleep coz I couldent put my iphone down I can say I loved it and well done and congratulation to all amazing actors and I was hooked big time I really hope this ain’t the last . And thankyou very much just I’m at a loss now lol lie to me made me watch it all times day and night feel a loss now but thanks might just watch… Read more »
yes. nearly the best show on telly and the best fox has or will ever produce
They shouldn’t have cut off LIE TO ME. I think most people didn’t know about it. Personally I found out about the show from a friend and have been obsessed with it until I found out today that it was canceled!!!! In the middle of a season too. Very frustrating. The show itself is amazing and extremely interesting so I think it is Fox’s fault for their poor advertising of the series because once I started watching the show, I couldn’t stop. I think the same would be for other people if they knew about it.
FOX has made a stupid decision similar to what they did with Family Guy years ago. Bring this show back to life…its something I cannot stop watching. I would rather you cancel a piece of crap than a piece of art. Great plots, great actors, great twists, great production. I give it 4.5 out of 5.
I think FOX erred big time in yanking the series Lie to Me. Each episode was done quite well and had you on the edge. The actors was well above board. I think some bone head making more money than us, made that decision. I would start watching it again in a hearbeat if it came back on. COME ON FOX> grow a set and get it back on the air with the same crew. Too many folks really enjoyed this series.
Yes such a waste for not continuing such an interesting thought provoking series! The characters were just growing into solid relationships that the viewers became involved in and the shows cancellation just ended the affairs without warning…..ouch…. it would do Fox a great justice to bring this series back!
Lie to Me is one of few crime series which are actually serious, and they don’t just focus on drama between the main cast, like most of them do. We can also learn something from this series.
Tim Roth is an excellent actor, and he gives the series a special touch, unlike many of the other crime series, where the characters are flat, ordinary and just plain boring.
Please bring it back! I love the lightman groep!
Pease bring it back!!! It’s not only educational but because of it’s new angel on solving crimes different than all the other tv series and therefore also ways more entertaining!!!
