Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.
What do you think? Should Lie to Me have been renewed for season four?

I just caught it on Netflix and I was very disappointed that it ended… so sad loved it .. hopefully it can come back
I watch the first season as it was aired on tv and I fell in love. I just finished the third season 10 minutes ago on Netflix just to learn that the show is cancelled. This USA show that keeps the viewer coming back for more no matter how an episode ends. FOX is making a huge mistake. Ratings are going to continue to drop for any tv drama because Netflix has become the rising star. America has begun to realize that most of the best shows on television are on Netflix. And guess what, Netflix is a lot cheaper… Read more »
Yes, a season 4, 5, 6, 7. 8, 9, and 10 should be the minimum for this show. It is one of the best out there. I am guessing the shows it was put up against might have been the problem.
Yes **** u guys lie to me is the best show ever
I Don’t get t,v, signal so I have Netflix. Please just put on Netflix.Cable cost to much.T,V special boxes and antennas don’t work. Loved the show , miss the show

I actually think the current rating system is the problem. We all know traditional television viewing is going the way of the DoDo Bird, so why isn’t our rating system doing the same? While I do think that the show was a little weaker in the third season (Tim Roth’s exaggerated head tilt, while I love him, was starting to get to me 🙂 ), the characters were starting to build nicely and I think a lot could have been done to strengthen the story lines. You would think that with technology contributing to an extreme change in the way… Read more »
Please bring this series back! It’s one of the best television series I have seen in a very long time, and think it would do particularly well as a Netflix series. Besides, the show didn’t have a proper ending, and leaves viewers (especially those as devoted as myself) thirsty for more. Even if a test-run were conducted with the 4th season being a Netflix series, at the very least it would give the writers an opportunity to tie up loose ends from season 3. However, if it turns out to be the successful hit many of us believe it will… Read more »
Lie to Me – I have studied all three seasons twice and its one of the best series Netflix has out there. If I was on the review board my vote would be a season four, push the educational system behind the premise of the show., it’s a bit shuttle for most viewers. Writers take note! The conseptual part…..well let’s just say bring more of season one’s into. a season four. I have watched season three – (3)) times trying to understand why it fell off the radar with the viewership. The concept is great and the rest is up… Read more »
At last an intelligent, articulate Series, one Fox should be proud of not dumping! Please someone reconsider and bring it back, we in England love it especially with such a talent as Tim Roth and all the other cast who are also fantastic.
This breaks my heart, I just discovered this show on Netflix a month ago and have finished all three seasons. Absolutely loved it and introduced others to it as well, it’s a shame we all found it too late.. ): Give it another try Fox!!
