Lone Star: FOX TV Show Cancelled After Two Episodes

by Trevor Kimball, September 28, 2010

Lone StarWe all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.

Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.

The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.

Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.

Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.

Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.

What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?

UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

I loved the show and would be sorry to see it go. It was fresh and different and I was really looking forward to seeing how far the con would go.

The only new show that actually got my attention. I was so disappointed when I couldn’t find it and had to research to find that it was off the air. Definitely a mistake not to give it more time to get viewers to watch. The cast was great.

Instead of evaluating the entire circumstances around the rating deficit, FOX just assumes that no one likes the great acting, the human story of a disfunctional family with some promise and great cliff hanger plots that made us sure to tune in for the next episode. Bring that improved modern day “Dallas” show back, and fix the real problem…your stupid ad campaign (Hire a NEW promoter)! The show was off the chain! Great show! Bad decision on FOX’s part!

That is so sad to see one of the best shows of the fall season to fail!!!! I heard the other day that people who DVR’S there tv shows are not included in the viewer ratings which is sad, because over half of us record our new shows because, we cant watch every show at the same time!!!! That deff. needs to change!!!! I demand that FOX atleast airs the remaining episodes on the internet or something, Because, it isnt fair that we get the short end of the stick!!!!

The show was great, but I did say to myself during the show that it seemed more like one of the flagship productions of the FX Network. I was surprised to see something this good on FOX. As for those who tuned out early while watching the pilot, they just didn’t give it enough time to figure it all out. If they had, they would have been watching every episode. I really believe that there is more to it of why the number of viewers were low. It certainly wasn’t the fault of the show. Lone Star on FX would… Read more »

This show was a winner. The the most original, creative and well acted new tv series. The production valves were right on. The promotion of this series was lacking. Find a different time slot and give this “baby” another chance. The crew and cast must be
devastated. Sorry, you guys really delivered on this one.

Peace & Plenty
