MacGyver is coming back to television. CBS is bringing a reboot of this series to its network at some point. The series is currently in development. The original series starred Richard Dean Anderson.
This time, the series will be directed by James Wan, who is known for his work on Saw and Furious 7 on the big screen. Wan will join R. Scott Gemmill and Henry Winkler to bring this new series to life.
Winkler was executive producer of the original 1980s series, and Gemmill is currently working on NCIS: Los Angeles. He will remain with that series this season.
According to Variety, CBS is very excited about this reboot. Their report revealed that the new MacGyver series would follow “MacGyver in his early years, as a 20-something new recruit to a clandestine organization where he hones his skills at averting disaster.”
This is not the only 1980s franchise being courted for a reboot. Just yesterday, Fox announced its plans for a Lethal Weapon reboot.
As for MacGyver, this is not the first time a potential reboot has been discussed. WB wanted to air a Young MacGyver series in the past.
Would you watch a new MacGyver on CBS? Tell us what you think.
Richard Dean Anderson was great in
MacGyver if the show comes back
won’t be repeat.
The original MacGyver was excellent with Richard Dean Anderson. There is no creativity today. The remake of Ironside was a bust. The only changes were that Ironside was African American. I do not know if they added the characters like Eve. It cancelled after a couple of espisodes. I do not now if the remake of the Odd Couple still lives. Leave the past in the past. The series the Divide which was superior and the writing superior and original was cancelled and the crap reality shows remained. Maybe the remakes will appeal to today’s youth. What they should do… Read more »
Of Course I would! I love this story!!
Yes, I would watch the updated version. The original kept you wondering how McGyver would handle his latest plight
Richard Dean Anderson was a great
Actor for MacGyver since then
he also Stargate sg1.
Good luck to find some one who
is as good.
Maybe he’ll show me how to survive an earthquake with a flashlight and needle and thread?
You Bet I’ll watch!
Oh my gosh. I mainly just watch old tv now. Few new shows. Because if it’s not trash, it’s a remake of something. Absolutely out of ideas.
How about RDA playing his original character and have a NEW Mac, JR, as his son, carrying on in his father’s footsteps, learning from the ‘Master’ ? That would be intriguing to all of us die-hard MacGyver fans, don’t you agree? With Henry Winkler at the helm, we already know the new show will be great. They’ll probably update the technology but, now and again, RDA, Sr. could have to fall back on the ‘old’ ways and pull out the DUCT TAPE to save the day. I’m smiling at the prospect already. 😀
why is everything another reboot of the past? why do networks not come up with new ideas for new shows instead of just bringing back old shows like 90210 again?
Bringing back MacGyver would be great. If they had the right actor similar to the original actor. It would be a wonderful idea if Mr. Anderson could some how appear occasionally to keep the interest going. Keep the stories interesting and honest.
I’am surprise MacGyver hasn’t become a movie. Considering the track record
Of TV reboots.
Yes,yes, yes!!!! Of course, are you kidding. Good it’s the quality of the original or better yet, why not?
Naturally with the caveat who will play Mac?????
Absolutely would watch the reboot, loved the old show!!!
Richard Dean Anderson was such a hottie when he played MacGyver. Good luck finding someone who is that good looking to play him as a younger person. Will RDA be playing any part in this? Maybe his mentor, dad, teacher or just cameos?
