ABC has done very well with their political drama, Scandal. Will Madam Secretary be a similar ratings hit for CBS? Will it be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled? Stay tuned.
On Madam Secretary, former CIA analyst Elizabeth McCord (Tèa Leoni) returns to public life after being recruited by the President (Keith Carradine) to become the new Secretary of State. The rest of the cast includes Željko Ivanek, Bebe Neuwirth, Geoffrey Arend, Patina Miller, Erich Bergen, Tim Daly, Katherine Herzer, and Evan Roe.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/12 update: Madam Secretary and two other shows have been renewed for a second season by CBS.
Final season averages: 1.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.82 million total viewers.

Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a couple weeks later.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season two?
This show is getting better and better. Keep it. Be patient. And she is nothing like Hilary Clinton. She is much better and I think Hilary is pretty cool.
Really liked episode one. Was hoping to catch the 2nd ondemand but it’s not available yet.
For those of us that are t football fans it’s hard to just “wait” for the show so I’ve always watched Sunday shows ondemand. Almost one week later and still no Good Wife or Madam Secretary
BOO!
AWFUL, TERRIBLE SHOW!
They need to drop the background music. Makes it too lite and airy
another ratings disaster for CBS this year
Really! Wooden acting hackneyed plot.
Tried it even though it was heavily promoed, which to me means it must be bad. In my opinion, it is not worth my time watching anymore.
Much like Hillary Clinton, Madam Secretary, CBS’s $100 million contribution to the Hillary 2016 campaign, drove away the young.
The current ratings show that Madam Secretary lost 4 million 60 Minutes viewers and lost half of its younger 18-49 viewers. That’s the demo prized by advertisers and Madam Secretary is going to have trouble staying on the air if it can’t get them to tune in.
My husband and I loved this show. There are very few shows worth watching these days and this is one that is worth it.
It’s going to be ruined by the fact there are too many interruptions….sorry, I filmed it last night and it took up an hour of what was supposed to be The Good Wife.
PUT THE GAMES ON THE SPORT CHANELS AND THE BIG BRO AND OTHER STUFF ON CHANELS MADE JUST FOR THEM!!!!
I liked it even though it is so obviously propaganda for Hillary running for President. NBC helped Obama get elected & now its CBS’s turn to get Hillary elected. Still I will watch it again. BTW where was Hillary’s ‘stylist’ during her term as Sec. of State? Ha!!
Funny, I didn’t get that at all. Tea Leone’s character is far smarter and her mouthiness isn’t just nasty, it’s actually done with humor and intelligence. JMO PS: If you don’t think Hillary had a stylist and makeup person following her around, you are way too naive. No offense intended, but believe me when I say she had (has) “people” at her beck and call!
Kate.. Don’t you recall how awful Hillary looked so often during her time as Sec Of state esp when she was ‘on the road’ Her hair looked as tho it was just combed & not styled & I still recall those dark bags under her eyes. Now that she is back & ‘ not running yet’ ha! it is obvious she has a stylist, Plus I think she has had a little ‘plastic help’ . Dark bags gone & many facial lines gone also. Which is fine, if I had the money I would do the same thing. Now you… Read more »
Not a fan. I don’t find the title character convincing in the slightest. She’s one of those people who spends too much time talking about how tough she is and too little time proving it. There’s too much posing and not enough follow-through. The title character in “The Mysteries of Laura” succeeds with a strong lead in every way that “Madam Secretary” fails.
So, one viewer thinks Madam Secretary “spends too much talking about how tough she is and too little time proving it.” The viewer wants a woman of action, such as protagonist in “The Mysteries of Laura.” Apparently he/she would prefer a comic book character to play the role of Secretary of State. Well, Laura is likely to be available soon. If not, maybe the Black Widow character from the Avengers? What about She Hulk?
No thanks. I don’t like Hillary.
And, of course, because this is about a woman who is Secretary of State, it must be about Hillary — not Madeleine Albright or Condoleeza?
I loved Madam Secretary – For once a tv show afamily can watch with the same concerns we deal with on a regular basis, keeping a marriage going when actually two people care about each other enough to talk things out. Also family concerns raising kids that are “normal” experiencing what kids deal with today and how their parents feel about their decisions. I also like the workings of behind the scenes of the white house. Please keep it going
And, of course, Tèa’s hair looks just like that of Madeleine Albright or Condoleeza or some other high-level woman in politics or business. Oh wait, no it doesn’t. Give me a break, it’s such a blatant and obvious Hillary commercial it isn’t funny. What other BROADCAST NETWORK show did they ever plan to put on TWICE IN A SINGLE NIGHT? Cable, yes, twice in a week, yes.
Well let’s see if it was about Secretary Rice the character woukd be a strong beautiful African American woman playing the role and if it was about Madeline Albright then she would be a sophisticated but much older woman…so who do we think it’s modeled after …hmmmm could it be Hillary. REALLY they must think we are clueless!
Maybe because they’ve been doing very well with their “old” skewed shows –NCIS, for example? Or maybe it’s because old is awesome. You have actors who have experienced the world and can portray it instead of teeny-boppers who are full of only themselves. I like this show a lot.
I get that, and mostly agree. but if the 18 – 4 is supposedly the coveted group, why is it that everything CBS does automatically skew old ( I am NOT in the demo by the way). do younger audiences just not tune in cause its CBS?
I have no ida, but I have no idea why they want the 18-45 demographic in the first place. They may not know it, but many older people have more money to spend than most teenagers and 20-somethings.
why does every CBS show skew old?
