While the How I Met Your Mother TV show spin-off — How I Met Your Dad — never made it past pilot stage, there’s a new attempt in the works. Deadline reports This Is Us co-executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are taking a stab at the premise, told from the female point of you.
Like the original, How I Met Your Father is also reportedly an ensemble show. While HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will executive produce with Aptaker and Berger, their level of involvement is unknown.
The 2014 How I Met Your Dad project featured Greta Gerwig as Sally, with Meg Ryan filling the Bob Saget latter-day narrator post. Anders Holm, Tiya Sircar, Drew Tarver, Andrew Santino, and Nick D’Agosto also starred.
About How I Met Your Father
Deadline says, “How I Met Your Father is not a traditional spin-off. It just incorporates the same storytelling device as the original series of a person — in this case a mother — telling the story of how they met their spouse.”
According to the report, Aptaker and Berger are writing the script on spec at 20th Century Television. Because the new take will not contain characters from the original series, it does not have to end up on CBS.
