There won’t be a fourth season of Necessary Roughness. USA Network has cancelled the sports drama reports Deadline.
A network statement reads, “We are proud of this show and its writers, which had a unique ability to address topical subjects before they unfolded in real life on the sports pages… We want to thank Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro, the incredible cast led by Golden Globe nominee Callie Thorne and our partners at Sony Television.”
The first season of Necessary Roughness drew an average of 4.18 million viewers but season two dropped to 2.5 million.
Despite the drop, USA renewed it for a shortened third season, adding John Stamos and other new series regulars. The additions didn’t seem to make much of a difference with season three averaging 2.45 million.
The defacto series finale aired on August 21st.
What do you think? Do you like Necessary Roughness? Are you sorry that the show won’t be returning for a fourth season?
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS SHOW!?!? How can this be a good business decision for you?!?!? This show presented an entertaining insight into sports, was educational, and extremely entertaining. Your Management Decision Makers should RETHINK THIS!!!
Just bring it back. More than 2 million people watched it and enjoyed it. It’s different and exciting. The writers did a fantastic job. Just bring it back, please. Thank you!

If I Hadn’t left it in my dvr I would have missed it. Very poor marketing for an outstanding Show!! Wish you’d bring it back. Ps. Why would you think Stamos would be such a draw The original cast was killer. Perhaps guest stars With real football players would have… Read more »
Ughhhhh!!! I can’t belive this show got cancelled!!! To be replaced by yet another “reality” show?!?!? Reallllyyy??? I was anxiously awaiting to see the Nico story line unfold—things were getting juicy!! Now we are in forever limbo. THANKS USA Network execs!!! Not!
I agree with Chris. Do you loyal viewers not matter? I loved the show and couldn’t wait for it to come back. How disappointing that you cancelled it.
Why on earth did you cancel this show? Because you were not getting 4 million viewers? So that makes the 2.5 million viewers unimportant? We dont count? Really, how sad is that. You have a show that is loved by over 2.5 MILLION people….come on….bring it back. It was a great cast, the interactions were beautiful to watch. Really said to see this gone…..
