As if there weren’t enough signs already that ABC’s No Ordinary Family is doomed to be cancelled, the network has given us another one.
The TV series, about a super-powered family, has been struggling in the ratings for quite awhile and currently averages just a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.67 million viewers. Last week’s episode attracted only a 1.2 demo rating. ABC also recently cut the episode order from 22 to 20 installments.
Just days after production wrapped on what will likely be the final episode of No Ordinary Family, the show’s stars signed on for new CBS shows. Michael Chiklis will star in a new sitcom pilot called Vince Uncensored. Julie Benz has signed on for an as-yet-untitled supernatural medical drama, co-starring Patrick Wilson. (These are technically in second position but it’s certainly not a good sign.)
And now, ABC has decided to air the second-to-last season episode on a Saturday night. The network has pre-empted No Ordinary Family on March 29th with an hour special, Dancing with the Stars: The Story So Far. There are two episodes left so one will air this Saturday, March 26th, at 10pm. The finale will then air on Tuesday, April 5th, at its usual time.
What do you think? Is there still a chance that No Ordinary Family will be renewed?

I really enjoyed this show. The writting and the acting have been a great breath of fresh air. Sadly I dont think it will make it unless they move it to another night . Maybe Sci-Fi will pick it up they need a great hit now that Battle Star is over
well, I am clearly not in the demographic that counts [again..been the same all my life ] but I think its a great little show, I hope they renew and give it a running chance. the thing I hate about nets is that they like to play “hide the show” with you..what time?? what night? has it been dropped altogether?? these are lousy questions we have to go over with every show aired. I have gotten really to where I don’t like to get ‘attached’ to a show anymore, as it is devastating to find they are gone and your… Read more »
I think it is disgusting that a show like Glee (which depicts high school aged kids singing songs like “would you like to touch me” and “afternoon delight”) could actually win audiences over an amazingly plotted a good valued show like No Ordinary Family. I think when this show gets cancelled I will only buy DVD collections of good killed programs, giving up broadcast tv for good. I don’t know where our values have gone in the past 20 years but the state of television today is SICK, PERVERTED, STALE, and SAD. Get a clue tv execs, you are out… Read more »
You can’t hold an audience if you keep changing the schedule, times & days shown…Perhaps if networks took into account online viewers rather than sticking with the antiquated Neilson ratings (which is a ridiculous way to determine a show’s viewership) shows like No Ordinary Family could be kept in production. Working shifts, I’m not always able to watch TV, but I can watch online. If they’re worried about ad revenue, then perhaps ABC needs to hire the woman everyone use to go to talk to in that place across from Ohio State… Ask Michael Eisner (wonder if he still has… Read more »
Intelligent story line??? My daughter and I call this “The Stupid Show!” The only reason we watch it is to make fun of all the terrible logic and disconnects in the story. The acting is terrible, situations are completely contrived, and action/reaction logic is non-existent. This show should be a good lesson to other writer’s as to what NOT to do.
ABC needs it’s own SyFy…..NBC can put its more creative/genre offerings on its cable net. ABCFamily already screwed up by cancelling Kyle XY but they could build a family friendly fantasy brand NOT for the tween set if they tried.
I have already accepted the fact that the show will be cancelled. I don’t think it really ever had a chance going up against shows like NCIS and Glee. I will miss the show greatly though as it is just another show I love that gets cancelled too soon.
Jason, I wholly agree with you. No Ordinary Family is one of the few shows that I feel comfortable letting my daughter watch. It has a good moral compass, and an intelligent story line. The rest of the airwaves are polluted with raunch and immorality, or the kids channels are chock full of hyper self-gratifying story lines that are just terribly acted merchandising campaigns.
i hope this show stays on. it’s probably one of the only shows that actually are okay for families and kids to watch. it’s a shame that terrible shows with no moral or taste stay on the air but good decent ones dont. my family and i look forward to watching this show every week. im 27 years of age and i think this show is fantastic for all audiences.
Add Eli Stone, Boston Legal, Men in Trees and The Unusuals to the list of Mouse cancellation blunders. And yet, supposedly professional doctors having sex in closets and nap rooms at a hospital or in a beach between young faux doctors seems to do well on MouseNet. Do you think Walt might be rolling is his grave? And can someone please explain to me what the hell that last episode of LOST was all about?
Free will versus fate and accepting one’s flawed self and moving on.
I like the show, but I really doubt it will be renewed. It’s a shame, they’ll probably replace it with some mediocre reality show. Oh well.
too bad. liked this show. oh well
I hope so, but don’t hold out much of it. Every time I like a show, it gets canceled–and it’s almost always ABC that does it. Life on Mars, Samantha Who, The Forgotten, now No Ordinary Family. Are they even gonna actually end it, or just leave all questions unanswered, all story lines unfinished?
I Hope so too. It just gets better, they need to advertise more though.
I hope so, No Ordinary Family is pretty good. One of ABC’s best, I’d say (other than canceled show Pushing Daisies, of course).
100% agree. BEST. SHOW. EVER.
My whole family loves this show the only other thing I watch on abc is castle! If this is cancelled screw abc
