Tonight, Numb3rs finishes off its sixth season with episode 118, “Cause and Effect.” Will the show be back next season? A decision hasn’t been made yet but lots of people are betting that it will be cancelled.
Numb3rs follows FBI Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), who helps the authorities solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series debuted in January 2005 and has long been a successful player for CBS on Friday nights. In season one, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 11.1 million viewers. They went up in season two, with an average of a 3.3 rating and 11.7 million viewers. Viewership has fallen since then however and last season, Numb3rs scored a 2.2 and 10.2 million.
This season, Numb3rs’ ratings have dropped further still — averaging a 1.8 rating and 8.26 million viewers each week. As a result of the decline in ratings, CBS (which is having a very good season) decided to cut back on the number of episodes and reduced their season order from 22 to 16 installments.

The official reason for the decrease is that CBS had too much programming and needed space to try out new series. Next week, Numb3rs’ timeslot will be occupied by a new show, Miami Medical.
CBS has maintained that the fate of Numb3rs hasn’t been decided yet but, considering the series’ production costs and ratings, it seems fairly certain that the show is done.
In fact, ABC and FOX are betting on it. The networks have already cast Morrow and Krumholtz in new pilots.
Morrow will star in a dramatic pilot called The Whole Truth for ABC, opposite Joely Richardson. He’ll play a fiercely competitive and successful defense attorney who is close friends with his equally talented courtroom adversary (Richardson). Whole Truth is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Meanwhile, Krumholtz has been cast in a comedy pilot for FOX called Tax Man. The project’s being produced by Ron Howard and stars Krumholtz as an IRS Agent who’s trying to find nobility in his work. Judy Greer recently joined the cast.
If CBS does decide to bring Numb3rs back for another season, both Morrow and Krumholtz will be obligated to return. However, the other networks wouldn’t cast them in new pilots unless they felt it was a very strong possibility that Numb3rs would indeed be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you like to see Numb3rs return for a seventh season or is it time to say goodbye to the Eppes?

I sooooooo like Numbers. I cant believe it has been cancelled. I dont care for all the ‘reality” shows so what else is there for me to watch? oh well less tv for me
I have watched this show since it aired, love it! If the producers can see this post, PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of the best shows on CBS or any other network. It has continually improved every year. The cast is fantastic with a lot of excellent acting and good chemistry. The writing, directing and production are great. Why would CBS want to trash this show? There is nothing else quite like it on T.V. It has a unique perspective with the math and science utilized for crime fighting. I think the show is wonderful!
I absolutely love Numbers… maybe it went it went down in ratings because everything was screwed up this year on the tv… Why cancel a good thing…Look at Jay’s show.. Of course they should have kept hime and they learned their lesson.. don’t be a victim of the same thing… slow and steady wins the race…
LOVE THE SHOW,THE CHARACTERS, AND THE WRITING
I am really bummed that this show is/might be cancelled. I really enjoyed the premise and I thought all the cast was really good. I hate the replacement show, it’s slick , silly, predictable and boring.
I truly hope Numb3rs does not get cancelled. Every Friday night I trust that it is there. I will NOT watch Miami Medical. What happened to Three Rivers????? It was on for awhile and I cant find it anywhere!
Is CBS killing shows???
I really need to call CBS and find out if they really think Miami Medical will be any different than Three Rivers. Seriously doubt it!
CBS, get your head on straight!
I love Numb3rs and am very disappointed that it ended early this season. I do not watch the follow on pilot. If I can’t find anything else, I turn the television off. I hope they bring back Numb3rs
NO MORE REALITY SHOWS????? Please keep Numbers It is One of my Favorite shows ever. Th family is just great . Who needs another medical show, of which their are to Many.&**(()*&^%.
I love Numbers nd would hate to see it go. There is so much junk and relity TV, We don’t all like reality. I finally have the desire to watch a TV show and they are thinking abut cancellng it… Come on and leave it alone…
I don’t want to see this show cancelled. I’ve long been a fan of the major cast members , Morrow from “Northern Exposure” , Hirsch of course from Broadway and “Taxi” , Krumholtz from “Life With Mikey” , Rawat beginning with “The O. C.” and recently the surprising alternative lifestyle part on “Flash Forward”.
The show gave intellect and logic a new level of respect , also a warmer , friendlier more admirable view of the FBI .
I’ll truly miss it. Perhaps CBS can do a 4 or 5 part TV movie that will appropriately end the show .
Tell me why is it every time you find a TV series that is exciting and full of drama
gets the ax? However let it be some of the reality TV shows that are coming ot
of your ears be the ones that should go off the air. Who the hell cares about the
life style of the rich and stupid. Please help the viewers find quality TV and not
the junk they currently have on today!!!!
Me
I hope they don’t cancel it. I love it! I think if they would show it at maybe 9 o’clock, instead of at 10, they might get more viewers.
I think you should keep the show. I love it. I love math and science. And for all those math and science lovers, this is where the love of it starts. I love this show so much. It’s not as dark as other criminal shows and the characters work so well together. I think that this show has a lot more potential and can go very far.
I hope they don’t cancel the show. It’s one of my favorites, always something going on, and usually, the ending is always a surprising one! The cast is amazing, the characters all go together so well and the story line is great, also, it is great to see Judd Hirch in such a great dramatic series!
