Tonight, Numb3rs finishes off its sixth season with episode 118, “Cause and Effect.” Will the show be back next season? A decision hasn’t been made yet but lots of people are betting that it will be cancelled.
Numb3rs follows FBI Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), who helps the authorities solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series debuted in January 2005 and has long been a successful player for CBS on Friday nights. In season one, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 11.1 million viewers. They went up in season two, with an average of a 3.3 rating and 11.7 million viewers. Viewership has fallen since then however and last season, Numb3rs scored a 2.2 and 10.2 million.
This season, Numb3rs’ ratings have dropped further still — averaging a 1.8 rating and 8.26 million viewers each week. As a result of the decline in ratings, CBS (which is having a very good season) decided to cut back on the number of episodes and reduced their season order from 22 to 16 installments.

The official reason for the decrease is that CBS had too much programming and needed space to try out new series. Next week, Numb3rs’ timeslot will be occupied by a new show, Miami Medical.
CBS has maintained that the fate of Numb3rs hasn’t been decided yet but, considering the series’ production costs and ratings, it seems fairly certain that the show is done.
In fact, ABC and FOX are betting on it. The networks have already cast Morrow and Krumholtz in new pilots.
Morrow will star in a dramatic pilot called The Whole Truth for ABC, opposite Joely Richardson. He’ll play a fiercely competitive and successful defense attorney who is close friends with his equally talented courtroom adversary (Richardson). Whole Truth is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Meanwhile, Krumholtz has been cast in a comedy pilot for FOX called Tax Man. The project’s being produced by Ron Howard and stars Krumholtz as an IRS Agent who’s trying to find nobility in his work. Judy Greer recently joined the cast.
If CBS does decide to bring Numb3rs back for another season, both Morrow and Krumholtz will be obligated to return. However, the other networks wouldn’t cast them in new pilots unless they felt it was a very strong possibility that Numb3rs would indeed be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you like to see Numb3rs return for a seventh season or is it time to say goodbye to the Eppes?

I love the show.
They keep taken my show off that I watch, Without a Trace was another one. LET THEM RUN FOR THE 8-10 SEASONS AND THEN LET THEM HAVE THERE LAST SHOW TO PULL ALL THE PIECES TOGETHER, JUST LIE A BOOK…CBS REALLY SUCKS SOMETIMES!!!
I really like Numb3rs, but can’t see where they could take it with Charlie gone. It was interesting to watch his part grow–Morrow was really The Guy at first, but his “brother”‘s role got bigger and more interesting with time. I’ll miss it, but think it’s run its course.
The BEST!
Couldn’t believe it was the last episode. What are they thinking?
keep numbers on the air
My wife and I just started watching Numbers this year and thoroughly enjoy it. As for me, I watch very little TV and I need programs that are just a little cerebral to keep me interested. I also need to like the characters. This show has both elements. I hope CBS keeps it on for a seventh season and more.
Keep Numb3rs on the air!
Numb3rs is one of the best shows on the air. The violence is downplayed, the mathematical solutions are entertaining, and it always ends happily with the family, together. Nonsense? Maybe. But it is very entertaining without punishment. I would enjoy another season.
Brasilll;…..
Não no no no no no no
Numb3rs 7 let´s go nowwwwww…….
I’d had a lot of issues with how they reduced the math. content of the show but since the last episode I found how much I miss it—now no non-news programs on Friday worth watching.
CBS has [is] made a big mistake. Aside from “Big Bang Theory” and “How I Met Your Mother” it was the only other CBS show I watched.
How shortsighted of CBS to think of dropping Numb3rs. It’s one of the the very few shows I anticipate watching and will tape/dvr or watch on my computer if I am not home to watch it when it is aired. I have yet to watch more than a 5 minute segment of the so-called reality shows. They are borrrrrring. Even my wife, who can’t stand most crime shows, is an avid fan of Numb3rs, and will watch it every week. I have yet to watch Miami Medical and will will either watch a live sports event if one is airing,… Read more »
I am completely inlove with Numb3rs
I demand this show back
we love the cast writers and all the crew who provide us a wonderful way of spending a hr…
In my opinion as a long time Numb3rs fan taking this program off was a huge mistake. Miami Medical is a terrNumb3rs ible show and I mean no offense to actors on Miami Medical but it is not even close to being as good as Numb3rs. If CBS doesn’t want, Numb3rs I would hope ABC, NBC, FOX, USA or TBS will pick up this show and steal 11 million viewers from the short sided CBS.
Just started watching Numbers about three months ago on rerun. It comes on early early in the morning and I really love the show. I certainly hope they bring it back. I just seen the first three season on Dvd at the store and I hope they don’t sell out before I can get the money to buy.
Numbers is one of the most intelligent and interesting shows on network TV. I look forward to each new episode. I would watch reruns if I could, but, unfortunately, they only seem to air in the middle of the night. If anyone at the network is listening, PLEASE do not cancel Numbers.
This makes no since.
Obviously executives are justifying their salaries by making decisions.
Whether they are good or bad ones apparently does not matter.
I have one less reason to tune into to CBS.
And there weren’t that many reasons to begin with…
