Tonight, Numb3rs finishes off its sixth season with episode 118, “Cause and Effect.” Will the show be back next season? A decision hasn’t been made yet but lots of people are betting that it will be cancelled.
Numb3rs follows FBI Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), who helps the authorities solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series debuted in January 2005 and has long been a successful player for CBS on Friday nights. In season one, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 11.1 million viewers. They went up in season two, with an average of a 3.3 rating and 11.7 million viewers. Viewership has fallen since then however and last season, Numb3rs scored a 2.2 and 10.2 million.
This season, Numb3rs’ ratings have dropped further still — averaging a 1.8 rating and 8.26 million viewers each week. As a result of the decline in ratings, CBS (which is having a very good season) decided to cut back on the number of episodes and reduced their season order from 22 to 16 installments.

The official reason for the decrease is that CBS had too much programming and needed space to try out new series. Next week, Numb3rs’ timeslot will be occupied by a new show, Miami Medical.
CBS has maintained that the fate of Numb3rs hasn’t been decided yet but, considering the series’ production costs and ratings, it seems fairly certain that the show is done.
In fact, ABC and FOX are betting on it. The networks have already cast Morrow and Krumholtz in new pilots.
Morrow will star in a dramatic pilot called The Whole Truth for ABC, opposite Joely Richardson. He’ll play a fiercely competitive and successful defense attorney who is close friends with his equally talented courtroom adversary (Richardson). Whole Truth is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Meanwhile, Krumholtz has been cast in a comedy pilot for FOX called Tax Man. The project’s being produced by Ron Howard and stars Krumholtz as an IRS Agent who’s trying to find nobility in his work. Judy Greer recently joined the cast.
If CBS does decide to bring Numb3rs back for another season, both Morrow and Krumholtz will be obligated to return. However, the other networks wouldn’t cast them in new pilots unless they felt it was a very strong possibility that Numb3rs would indeed be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you like to see Numb3rs return for a seventh season or is it time to say goodbye to the Eppes?

I enjoy Numbers and the interaction of the two brothers
Do not cancel Numb3rs. I love this show and will not watch Miami Medical. Wont support any other show on this network. Use guys always cancel good shows for personal money gains. Leave the middle class with some good shows to watch.
Numbers is the one tv shows that help students develop an interest in mathematics. As a teacher it is encouraging to see a television show that deals with intelligent content in an informative way. Please don’t cancel!!
Don’t cancel it! Bring it! Keep it going!
Joanne, U-tube has everything just type in the title
I miss the show ” Miami Medical ” . I have been trying to get a copy of one episode . The
episode is called ” Golden Hr. ” . The show is canceled on your network , but how about putting it on another . Like Spike , TNT , TV Land , USA . If you can’t help me , do you
happen to know who can ?
NUMB3RS is, and has been since its’ premiere on CBS, perhaps the only weekly serialized television show on regular broadcast channels (CBS, NBC, ABC etc.) which actually strives to, first and foremost, engage the viewer’s mind/thought & logic processes in each episode AND THEN also keep the viewer interested enough in the serial episodic season’s storyline AND cast of characters (individually, as well as collectively) as to elicit loyal weekly/episodic viewing throughout the entire regular season of new broadcasts. Can’t the programming execs/network execs see that the viewing public is STARVING for intelligent, thought-provoking, interesting serialized shows which also are… Read more »
I’ve been a fan of the characters ; the writers and tec personnel since the creation of the program and I miss it tremendously. Please bring it back!
They already canceled it so it don’t matter what we write IM sure they don’t read it anyway. I love the show, watched it from the first episode now I watch the reruns in the morning. They cancel all the great shows, they should take the reality shows off you don’t learn anything from those. Believe it or not I have learned a lot of stuff from the shows I watch every week. Good thing CBS has a lot or other great shows on or I would be done with them. Lisa, how did you get CSI NY for your… Read more »
I have been searching for any info about what will happen. This is the only intelligent acting show, that does not “dumbs down” the family. You also learn, and if ABC and FOX has any sence about them they would pick this show up if CBS should be so stupid.
I like Numbers and will hate if it gets canceled. I do not like or watch Miami Medical.
Canceling Numb3rs is just plain stupid. The people at CBS that made this decision should be fired. Many people are just now finding out about the show and how educational and informative it is. DUMB DUMB DUMB!!!
i think they should too. some of the show on now is plain stupid and teach nothing why don’t the cancel those show
Numb3ers is one of the few original show from (finally) creative writers that has hit the airwaves. The premise that just about everything can be reduced to numbers or algorithms is unique and refreshing. It would really be a shame to pull from the lineup such a great show.
Please don’t cancal numbers it is one of my fav’s. It’s a perfect way to end fri. nite.
