Tonight, Numb3rs finishes off its sixth season with episode 118, “Cause and Effect.” Will the show be back next season? A decision hasn’t been made yet but lots of people are betting that it will be cancelled.
Numb3rs follows FBI Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), who helps the authorities solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series debuted in January 2005 and has long been a successful player for CBS on Friday nights. In season one, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 11.1 million viewers. They went up in season two, with an average of a 3.3 rating and 11.7 million viewers. Viewership has fallen since then however and last season, Numb3rs scored a 2.2 and 10.2 million.
This season, Numb3rs’ ratings have dropped further still — averaging a 1.8 rating and 8.26 million viewers each week. As a result of the decline in ratings, CBS (which is having a very good season) decided to cut back on the number of episodes and reduced their season order from 22 to 16 installments.

The official reason for the decrease is that CBS had too much programming and needed space to try out new series. Next week, Numb3rs’ timeslot will be occupied by a new show, Miami Medical.
CBS has maintained that the fate of Numb3rs hasn’t been decided yet but, considering the series’ production costs and ratings, it seems fairly certain that the show is done.
In fact, ABC and FOX are betting on it. The networks have already cast Morrow and Krumholtz in new pilots.
Morrow will star in a dramatic pilot called The Whole Truth for ABC, opposite Joely Richardson. He’ll play a fiercely competitive and successful defense attorney who is close friends with his equally talented courtroom adversary (Richardson). Whole Truth is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Meanwhile, Krumholtz has been cast in a comedy pilot for FOX called Tax Man. The project’s being produced by Ron Howard and stars Krumholtz as an IRS Agent who’s trying to find nobility in his work. Judy Greer recently joined the cast.
If CBS does decide to bring Numb3rs back for another season, both Morrow and Krumholtz will be obligated to return. However, the other networks wouldn’t cast them in new pilots unless they felt it was a very strong possibility that Numb3rs would indeed be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you like to see Numb3rs return for a seventh season or is it time to say goodbye to the Eppes?

CBS would be just off their rocker to cancel numb3rs!!! its one of the few good shows left on that network. Its like NCIS(the original not los angeles) they have been on so long it wouldnt be the same without them. I vote SEASON 7!!!
Numbers is my boyfriend and I’s absolute favorite show. We watch every Friday night, and we even re watch them ON DEMAND. It would be stupid to cancel such an awesome show. At least give us one more season!
I am always amazed that networks would expect a show like NUMBERS to survive when NO money or time is spent on promoting/advertising. CBS is spending millions on promoting/advertising the CSI shows, NCIS, etc. but nothing on NUMBERS and yet it survived for 6 seasons. NUMBERS which has minimal violence and a great cast is relegated to a 9PM time slot.
I hope that NUMBERS returns since it is one the last remaining network shows that I watch. The cable networks are producing far superior shows!
I want numbers to return, it is a great show with awesome actors. All of the great drama shows are being cancelled, lets hope that at leason ONE of the great ones comes back.
it time for numbers to go hello to miami!!!!!
RETURN ! This show is wonderful and one of the most interesting ever. It is also a great show for getting students more interested in math.
Guys, remember, only the asinine shows stay on the air, the good ones
go, or their actors a replaced with not so appealing ones.
I love numbers. I do not stay up late so have watched all of the latest shows on cable demand. I have watched all shows on netflix. It is one of the best shows ever besides the two NCIS shows and criminals. Please bring it back!
Numbers is a really good show. I look forward to watching it every week. If you must cancel, then at least wrap up the story. I hate it when shows cancel and they leave you hanging. Do a two hour wrap up or something.
Thanks
I totally agree…. wrap it up or give us another season! 🙂
I totally agree! Please bring it back for at least one more season! If that is not possible, at least tie evrything up. Allow us to see Charlie and Ameda get married, maybe Don get a new position in another city, etc.. just give fans some closure!
Thank you for 6 wonderful seasons (and here’s hoping for a 7th)!
Please do not cancel Number3s! We love it. Have not missed a single episode.
Watch all of the reruns – but want it to come back.
Please let it return CBS
Thanks
Please do not cancen Number3s! We love it, do not miss an episode. This Summer we are watching all of the reruns – but want it to come back.
Thanks,
It is the best written show on television.
Numbers is one of the best shows on TV. It should not be axed! my family and I would love to see it come back for new seasons.
Numb3rs and NCIS are two of my favorite shows, I always look forward to coming home
from work and watching them. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL. I know I have the opportunity to watch early in the morning on a cable, but it’s just no the same as Friday nite. Friday nite will not be same if take Numb3rs off.
Numb3rs was my favorite Friday night show. Please don’t cancel it. However, I also loved Miami Medical, and I want that to come back.
Please don’t cancel Numb3rs; it was my most favorite show and I don’t watch television series very often. I stopped watching the show merely because the showtimes were not best for me. I leave work around 5-6pm and then the gym. I would absolutely watch Numb3rs if the showtime was at 9:00pm!
